The TEFL Certificate Course

The course is essentially practical in nature and is assessed continuously. For a full detailed breakdown of the individual sessions, please see the 'Course Outline' page. In the morning, there are input sessions on the skills and methods of teaching. The afternoon consists of teaching practice (in small groups), lesson observation and lesson preparation. The course is divided into six areas:

1. Classroom Management
This topic includes classroom arrangement, managing resource materials, maintaining discipline, giving instructions, the role of student and teacher etc.
2. Teaching skills
This is a very practical element of the course, aimed at building the trainees' skills in areas such as teaching grammar, vocabulary, Business English, creating own materials, correction skills etc.
3. Language Awareness
This section of the course aims to consolidate the trainees' knowledge of grammar, and provide practical ideas as to how it can be taught.
4. Phonology
Focuses on areas such as pronunciation, stress, intonation, rhythm and the International Phonetic Alphabet.
5. Unknown Language
Trainees are put into the position of language students and are taught an unknown foreign language.

Unknown Language

Trainees are put into the position of language students and are taught an unknown foreign language. This gives you a chance to view lessons as a student and note techniques used by the teacher when teaching beginners. In Corinth, unless a student already has prior knowledge of the language, we normally use Greek.
Teaching Practice

The most practical and important element of the course. Trainees teach genuine EFL students of various ages and at least two different levels of ability.

All teaching practices - ten hours minimum (six are the international standard) - fully observed, constructively critiqued and graded by our trainers. The emphasis is on progression and trainees are expected to address issues raised during feedback.

Faculty Information:
All our trainers are highly experienced teachers. We maintain a minimum ratio of one trainer per five trainees.

Other Activities:
To help you get the most out of your experience in Corinth, we offer a range of social activities and excursions during the course.

Most people arrive on the Saturday before the course starts, but whatever day you arrive, we'll be at the airport to meet you. On the Sunday, we have a welcome lunch.

The most popular activities, which we generally do every month, are the archaeology tour, visit to Athens and visit to Ancient Corinth. Other ancient sites we sometimes visit include Delphi and Olympia.

We also visit any special events that are taking place, such as the Patras carnival in March.

In the summer months, when the Athens festival is on, we usually go to see a play at the ancient theatre of Epidavros. Other options that we offer in the summer include the Corinth Canal cruise, and a visit to one of the nearby islands - Spetses, Hydra, Poros or Aegina.

In the winter, popular options include Kalavrita and Lake Stymfalia.

For the more adventurous, we can go bungy jumping in the Corinth Canal or go-karting. Other sporting options are bowling and mini-soccer. For clubbing, the main options are Vrahati and Loutraki.

We also offer the opportunity to attend professional development events, such as the TESOL Greece convention.

At the end of each course, we have the graduation ceremony & party.

Transportation for each of the excursions is included in the course fee, and is provided in our own minibus (except for Athens). You will need to pay any additional expenses such as admissions and lunch.

The airport meeting and transportation to your accommodation, welcome lunch, graduation ceremony and party are all included.

Facility Information:
