Genki Japanese and Culture School (GenkiJACS) is a Japanese language school that offers short-term study abroad courses, learning Japanese language and culture in a relaxed and friendly environment. We are located in Tenjin, the heart of Fukuoka City, in Kyushu, South Japan.
We offer courses in a range of areas, including conversational Japanese, Japanese through pop culture, Japanese culture, and study for exams, all with an emphasis on practical work, inside and outside of the classroom. For students coming from overseas to study abroad at our language school, we can arrange a homestay family, and various activities for the duration of your stay. We're here to make your Japanese learning enjoyable and worthwhile.
Main Points of the School:
- Small class size
Classes are limited to a maximum of 6 students, and usually have around 3, giving you plenty of chance to practice with the teacher.
- Unique Courses
You won't find our "Japanese through Pop Culture" and "Japanese and Traditional Culture" courses at other schools!
- All ability levels accepted
Whether you are a complete beginner, an expert, or somewhere in between, we have a class for you.
- Practical topics
All classroom work is based on increasing your practical ability, and reinforced with practical activities outside of the classroom wherever possible.
- Relevant materials
Our teachers are constantly evaluating new learning materials, and creating our own where existing materials do not satisfy us.
- Only licensed teachers
Unlike some other Japanese schools, all of GenkiJACS' teachers are fully qualified and licensed by the Japanese Ministry of Education to teach Japanese as a foreign language. We hire only the best, and perform regular training. Students agree: you won’t find better teachers!
- We may hire teachers before they graduate and receive their license, as trainee teachers, if they show excellent teaching ability.
- Flexible schedules
Courses start every Monday year-round, and you can study for as long as you want, from 2 weeks to a year or more! We schedule classes to fit your needs, instead of forcing you to learn when we want you to learn!
- Low cost
We are in the education field because we love teaching and want to spread understanding of Japanese culture, so our courses are priced as low as we can make them. If you find comparable courses cheaper at other Japanese schools, please tell us!
Intensive Japanese Study Course Overview:
*Start dates: Every Monday throughout the year, depending on student level
*Course length: From 2 weeks to as long as you want
*Basic Schedule: Four 50-minute classes per day, usually scheduled from 9am to 2pm
*Requirements: All levels of students are accepted, but must be able to read hiragana/katakana.
*Accommodation: Homestay, shared apartment, dormitory or private apartment
*Cost: Depends on length of study.
Faculty Information:
All teachers are graduates of a Ministry-of-Education approved, 420-hour course to prepare them to teach Japanese to foreigners. All teaching staff and administrative staff are also bilingual English/Japanese, so even beginner students can be secure in coming to the school!
Other Activities:
Movie Night: One evening a fortnight, we show a Japanese film for discussion.
Outings: On weekends, we run outings to local festivals, shows, and famous places, depending on the interest of our students. For example, recently we have visited Mt. Aso (the largest active volcano in Japan), a pottery workshop for hands-on practice, and a soba noodle workshop.
Game night: As part of our quest to spread Japanese culture around the world, we teach Japanese games such as hanafuda to our students in the evenings. These events can go on until late at night, as no-one wants to lose the last game!
Dinner: About once a week, we take students to a different local restaurant to experience Japanese cuisine at its finest, whether its eating live fish, a horror/prison-themed restaurant, or a restaurant with a two-storey waterfall inside!
Special classes: Whenever we can, we run special "one-off" additional classes, taught by visiting lecturers on Japanese cultural topics, that any students can attend. Recently, we have offered special classes on Japanese flower arranging, tea ceremony, and calligraphy.
Facility Information:
Our school is centrally located in Tenjin, the heart of Fukuoka City. We have six classrooms, plus a communal space for students to relax.
Our classrooms are designed to facilitate learning in a relaxed and comfortable environment, and contain state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment including:
* Big-screen video projector
* DVD/video
* Wireless Internet access
* Laptop computers
Tape/CD players and computers are available for independent study and homework assignments, and students are welcome to bring their own laptops for free Internet access. A large library of textbooks, manga, DVDs and CDs can be borrowed for free.
Coffee, tea and snacks are provided free of charge.
