Intercultura's teen summer program was created for 13-17 year olds who want to immerse themselves in Costa Rican culture, learn the language, and explore the country on the weekends. The program is taught by Intercultura's professors, who have designed a syllabus specially for adolescent education, keeping learning fun, productive and very interactive. The activities, excursions and lodging are coordinated by our two wonderful teen chaperones, Jen Dillinger and Ashley Steyaert, whose patience and hard work has provided the teens with a safe, diverse and lively immersion experience into Costa Rican culture and the country itself.
Teens have the opportunity to live with a host family during the Heredia part of the program, and in a residence house with other teens for the Sámara beach time. Combining both parts gives them the best of both worlds: cultural interaction with a Costa Rican family, followed by a fun communal living experience with the rest of the teen students.
In addition to classes, teens participated in numerous activities throughout their stay: Latin dance and cooking, film nights, bowling, horse-riding, kayaking, surfing, theatre, sports, art exhibits, folkloric presentations, arts and crafts class, museums, waterfall visits, coffee plantation tours, volcano, beach and national park trips, salsa dancing at an under-21 nightclub, “intercambios” with local Costa Rican students, crocodile boat-trips, community service projects, and much more. What do the teens think of the program? One teen mom (Marianne Bechtle) wrote us, “"Clark hopes to come back next year, he says it is "awesome" !" Thank you”.
