The programme focuses on the political, legal and economic aspects of the constantly developing European Union. Highlighted are the history of making the EU as well as the dynamic interrelation between the supra-national and the intergovernmental character of the European Institutions.
Autumn semester (27 ECTS):
• Development of the EU and Integration Theories
• Economic Change in Europe and its Neighbourhood
• International Relations during the Cold War Era
• Historical Dynamics in European-Russian Relations
Spring semester (30 ECTS):
• The EU and the Challenge of Enlargement
• Economic Integration in Europe
• International Relations during the Post-Cold War Era
• Nationalism, Nation-building, Multi-nationalism in the EU
• The EU as a Global Actor
Additional: Study trips to the Estonian Government and the Parliament in Tallinn, and to Narva - the easternmost border of the EU.
Faculty Information:
Courses are delivered mostly by local teaching staff, some courses are delivered by visiting international staff. Instruction is completely in English. English is also very widely spoken outside of the classroom, in administrative units of the university, in stores, and even in public sector services.
Other Activities:
Students are offered to take part in group study trips to Latvia, to Tallinn (Estonian capital), to Russia at extra cost. Students get access to University sports center at a discounted price. Student social life is coordinated by Erasmus Student Network, which organizes numerous events for students, e.g. international food days, week end trips, sports events, parties, and more (usually at a very affordable price).
The main highlight of student life each semester is autumn and spring Student days, when the Rector hands the power over to students. These days are filled with events and attract students from all over Estonia to Tartu, Estonia's academic capital!
Facility Information:
Lectures for these programs are held in modern study rooms of EuroCollege. Free wireless Internet is available in most study buildings, in the library and even in the city hall square!
