Wilderness skiing at its best! Alpine and Telemark Ski Touring based at Kelman, Pioneer or Centennial Huts. The glacier runs are spectacular: Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers, Tasman, Darwin, Bonney and Murchison Glaciers. Depending on conditions some very fine peaks may be climbed on skis: Elie de Beaumont (3,190m / 10,225ft), Minarets (3055m/10,022ft), Sydney King (2,500m/8,200ft). Aircraft access required.
Backcountry skiing or snow shoeing based at our comfortable Rex Simpson Hut high above Lake Tekapo. Off the Main Divide of the Southern Alps the Two Thumb Range has very favourable weather conditions, providing the ideal venue for easy to moderate Telemark or alpine ski touring. Non-skiers can opt to traverse interesting ridges, peaks and valleys on snow shoes.
Cruising on skis over rolling hills and along snow-filled valleys, carving telemark turns down virgin slopes, convivial evenings beside a pot belly stove in a cosy mountain hut, the peace and serenity of the white wilderness - these are the ingredients of a memorable mountain holiday.
