The main aim of this half day private tour is to give you an insight in the astounding history of the Netherlands and Amsterdam. A history marked by triumphs and disasters, often man-made. And all of that left it's marks and made Amsterdam to what it is today. A city that is on the one hand cosmopolitan, busy, sometimes vulgar and noisy. On the other hand you can find parts with something of a village atmosphere, even in the old center. And of course all around you: centuries of culture and art.
During this walk with a local expert you'll see many Amsterdam highlights, but also discover some surprising and less known parts and spots. All of them with their own story. Sad or funny. But always drenched in history. As it's the people who made history, it's also their stories you'll hear. What happened, and why. Trying to understand these far away worlds of the past. This is a flexible and tailor-made private walking tour, focused on history and culture. What to visit and what not in a couple of hours is always a matter of choice. Impossible to see it all, unfortunately. So, if you have special fields of interest, you're very welcome to mention. As the town developed around the Old Church (now in the Red Light District), we will certainly try to visit this special monument. Depending on the guests interest (and the weather) other museums can be visited. Admission fees to be paid on site. You can choose the start time of the Amsterdam walk between 9 am and 2 pm. About half way through the tour there will be a stop for a drink in a café (complimentary). This city walk can be combined with a half-day bicycle trip in the countryside just outside Amsterdam. For bicycle day trips on history and culture see supplier profile and other package there. TIP: Personalised advice. Especially at the beginning of your stay an introduction to Dutch history and culture can be rewarding. Also an opportunity for tuning your further travel and visit plans. Plenty of time for personalised advice. TIP: Museumcard. If you're planning to visit several museums in the Netherlands, buying a MuseumCard might be a good idea. It gives free entrance to over 400 museums throughout the country including all major ones in Amsterdam. Member discount: Notes:
