I am an English speaking taxi driver and tour guide in Kyoto. I drive people and walk and talk with them in the beautiful gardens in Kyoto. Kyoto the heart of Japan - Kyoto has a long and colorful history that goes back more than 1,200 years. It was the Imperial capital of Japan from 794 to 1867. There is no city in Japan that has a richer and longer cultural history.
There are a number of attractive places in Kyoto like Kinkaku-ji Temple (Golden pavilion) and Kiyomizu Temple.
GION: This is the setting for the novel, Memoirs of a Geisha. If you are lucky, you may see a Geisha. After appreciating this unique Kyoto area, how about visiting Kiyomizu Temple and looking at the shops along San-nenzaka area, one of the most popular and attractive places in Kyoto.
NIJO CASTLE: It was built in Kyoto 1603 and now it is designed as an Unesco World Heritage Site. The paintings by Kano Tanyu on the sliding door are very famous and worth seeing.
KINKAKU-JI TEMPLE AND RYOAN-JI TEMPLE: The brilliant golden temple, Kinkaku will amaze you. The building is covered all over with real gold. After seeing it, visiting Ryoan-ji Temple is recommended. Its dry land-scape garden, Karesansui, will inspire you to think in its quiet atmosphere.
ARASHIYAMA AND SAGANO: Please enjoy the abundance of natural surroundings. A river runs in the mountains and there is a famous bridge, Togetsu-kyo. You can appreciate its fresh air and beautiful views no matter which season you go there. Some large temples are good to visit too. Very few cab drivers speak English in Japan. I am one of the few people to offer such services to foreign tourists.
In addition to those famous places, I can also take you to some good unknown spots. I have guided and had a good time with the former President of the United States, Mr. Clinton and the Oscar winning actress, Holly Hunter. A long drive to Nara is also available. Enjoy the ride without worry about language with me.
