Day 1: Arrival in San Jose. Welcome cocktail, dinner and orientation.
Day 2: Tour San Jose, the annual National Orchid Show, folk dance show and a typical Costa Rican dinner.
Day 3: Cartago with the Basilica and Saturday market, full of exotic foods, Lankester Gardens - its orchid collection and tropical plants. Cross the spectacular Orosi valley to Guayabo Lodge; relax in a mountain setting with a view of the Turrialba Valley.
Day 4: Tour Tayutic Hacienda where organic sugarcane are grown, coffee and macadamia nuts. Visit CATIE (Center for Tropical Agriculture Research and Education) and their plant collection. After dinner learn to prepare chocolate from the cacao bean.
Day 5: A scenic trip through the Heredia Highlands to Arenal. Visit La Paz Waterfall Gardens where your naturalist leads a walk to five waterfalls and through the largest butterfly observatory in the world and the aviary.
Day 6: A walk around La Fortuna gives you a glimpse of daily life. Relax at Tabacon Hot Springs, enjoying the thermal waters and dinner while catching sight of Arenal Volcano and its lava flow.
Day 7: In San Jose, see the topiary in Zarcero and Else Kientzler Botanical Gardens ornamental plants. Shop in Sarchi, famous for Costa Rican crafts. Have a farewell dinner at your beautiful art lodge in the San Jose outskirts.
Day 8: Depart for home
