This is a special trekking itinerary for those who like to spend as much time in the mountains as possible. The High Tatras belong to the Carpathian mountain arc. The mountains are situated in the northern part of Slovakia along the Polish border. The main range of the Tatras extends for 78 kilometres from west to east. The whole Tatras cover the area of 786 square kilometres and they are divided into the Western Tatras (also called Rohace), eastern or Belianske Tatras and central or the High Tatras.
There are more then 25 peaks above 2500m together with the most famous highest peak of the whole High Tatras, Gerlachovsky peak (2655m). The Central and Western Tatras consist of granite and gneiss. The Belianske Tatras are created mostly from limestone and dolomites.
