Exceptional expert led cultural tours, gulet cruises & private charters in Turkey, Greece and Sicily. We design inspirational trips of a lifetime: stimulating and luxurious tours, enlightening and relaxing gulet cruises. Our carefully crafted journeys in Turkey, Greece, and Sicily will take you to some of the world’s best preserved ancient sites, from Greek and Roman times and beyond.
In 1994, Peter Sommer walked 2,000 miles across Turkey, retracing the route of Alexander the Great, and in the process fell in love with the country, its people, and its ancient civilizations. A British archaeologist, film-maker, and highly experienced tour guide, Peter has been organizing unique escorted tours and cruises since 1996. A UK-based specialist travel operator, we provide a select number of holidays and vacations with a professional and above all personal touch.
Small groups: We take only small groups (max 16 on land, 14 by sea) of like-minded people, traveling in an easy-going, friendly, and informal style. Our expertise stems from an especially intimate knowledge of Turkey, Greece, and Italy – their geography, history, people, and much more.

Questions and Answers
Expert led cultural tours, gulet cruises and private charters in Turkey, Greece and Italy
1. How long has the business been operating and how did it start?
In 1994, Peter Sommer walked 2,000 miles across Turkey, retracing the route of Alexander the Great, and in the process fell in love with the country, its ancient civilizations, and the Turkish people. A British archaeologist, filmmaker, and tour guide, Peter created M11305 in 1996, offering unique escorted tours and gulet cruises.
2. What is your company's mission?
A small family run firm, we take pride in our personal approach, treating our customers as guests with extra special care - before, during, and after a tour.
3. What does your company specialize in?
Creating a rich and varied collection of escorted cultural tours - archaeology tours and gulet cruises with a difference. Our tours in Turkey, Greece, and Italy bring to life the rich heritage of these countries from profoundly ancient times to the modern era.
4. Who is the founder or owner of the company and briefly describe his/her past activities?
Peter Sommer studied Ancient History & Archaeology at Birmingham University in England before completing a Masters on the archaeology of Central Asia. He fell in love with Turkey in 1994 while walking 2,000 miles from Troy to the battle of Issus, retracing the route of Alexander the Great. For this epic journey he received The Explorers Club of America Young Expeditioners’ award.
He has taught at Birmingham University and Bogazici University, in Istanbul, Turkey. Two years into a PhD. at University College London, on the archaeology of northwest Turkey, he was seduced into television to work on In the Footsteps of Alexander the Great (BBC/PBS).
Peter has led and organised numerous historical cruises and archaeological tours in Turkey and beyond and still regularly leads some of our Turkey tours each year. He is passionate about leading cultural tours and delivering the very finest escorted tours.
5. What is your most popular travel package and why?
Our Cruising the Carian Coast tour continues to be one of our most popular trips. Travelling by traditional Turkish gulet along the sparkling Turquoise Coast, escorted by an expert guide, the wonders of this cultural journey begin at the ancient city of Lydae where monumental tombs stand on the crest of a hill overlooking a forgotten valley and culminate in Bodrum at the site of one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus.
6. What is the best compliment you received from a client?
"We could not have asked for anything more. It was more than a wonderful vacation, you made it a true adventure. We travelled 2500 years in a fortnight, saw and experienced things most people could never even imagine. Your enthusiasm, passion and organizational skills made the whole time a true holiday. Thank you so much…"

Peter’s guiding was meticulous and extremely thoughtful. The piece of the trip that really distinguishes it from another tour of its kind is Peter’s
... view more intimate connection with the place and the history as it allowed us to see places, meet people, and have experiences that would not have been otherwise available...
All of these things combined made us feel special: we weren’t on a pleasure cruise, nor were we on a boring dry tour sponsored by some Harvard professor who made us listen to lectures at night. That element of our being special and different from all the others we encountered is the priceless part. |
