Wanda Mumm combines her degree in art, natural ability and personal field observations to create works of art that have a wide appeal to the discriminating wildlife art enthusiast. Wanda spends as much time researching and composing her artwork as she does painting it. Although she uses many resources in her research, she relies on her extensive field studies gathered during her travels. The serenity portrayed in her work depicts wildlife from a naturalist viewpoint. Wanda believes that she will forever be a student of nature and art.

Since her first art show in 1978 along a Minnesota River bank, Wanda continues to develop her style and technique. She has gained national recognition for her birds and nature throughout the national show circuit. Wanda’s publisher, Applejack Limited Editions, publishes and distributes her prints as well as manages her licensing activity. Wanda's recognition includes Artist of the Year for the states of Illinois, Missouri, and Oklahoma, winner of the 1989 Oklahoma Duck Stamp, as well as being selected as an artist for Pheasants Forever and the National Turkey Federation. Nature Discovery Press, National Wildlife Federation, and National Raptor Center have also commissioned her for work. She has won numerous awards and was the featured artist for several shows including the National Wildlife Show in Kansas City, Northern Wildlife Show in Lansing, MI, Prairie Skies Wildlife Show in North Dakota, and the Heritage Wildlife Art Show in Minneapolis and was the Guest Artist for the Northeastern Wildlife Art Expo in Providence R.I.

Wanda enjoys participating in workshops with other internationally known artists and was very pleased to work with Nancy Glazier, Robert Batemen, Alan Hunt, and John Seerey Lester. Wanda also has a firm belief in mentoring young artists and has developed a workshop geared to encourage students who may be considering careers in art. This college-accredited workshop is held annually at a ranch in Montana and provides a full week of painting, sculpture, and career development. Wanda will be expanding her teaching to include international workshops.

"Dear Wanda, How blessed we have been to share with you another grand Rising Wolf Workshop. We are truly grateful. They’re always super, but somehow this ... view more year’s workshop was even more special. Super weather; mostly long time friends for lodge mates, and great food. Again, it was a 4.0 workshop in every respect." Fondly, Liz and Bob Seattle

"Wanda, One of my personal goals was to get over my hesitation to go outdoors to paint. I have been painting landscapes for four years in the studio from ... view more photos and wanted the extra oomph of color and texture that I heard painting in the field could provide. With Wanda's experienced guidance I was able to overcome my fears and venture outdoors. I received lots of practical tips on how to set up, what to bring, and even more important, what to leave behind. (Most of my brushes and most of my paint colors....) Wanda also stressed the importance of a viewfinder and a quick thumbnail sketch. She helped me get the hang of how much detail to put into the sketch to be useful in the composition of my paintings. Before that instruction I was continually getting lost in the wide-open spaces of outdoors. As I painted, she gave me guidance so I could correct values and other issues as they were occurring. By the end of the week my paintings were looking better. Making the transition from studio painting from photos to plein aire is very daunting, so I would encourage anyone anxious to get outside to seek out some time with Wanda Mumm. I have also enjoyed her book "The Workshop Experience” which reinforces many of the tips she stressed during our week. I am looking forward to painting on location with Wanda at Glacier Park next year. Wanda has vast experience in working with all levels of painters so I am sure you would get a lot out of your time with her. Be not afraid! Go forth with courage and paint! (But the right teachers make it so much easier.)" Daryl Shankland, Quincy, Illinois

"I had just started painting when I attended the first of seven Workshops. I did not feel threatened by the accomplished artists and have continued going ... view more back for several reasons. Primarily, there is so much to learn about the techniques of painting and every year I come away with a better understanding of composition, values and how to capture the colors and of what I am painting. Being a retired mechanical engineer helped me with perspective drawing but held me back as I included too much detail. M11325 has us do thumbnail sketches until satisfied with the composition and values of our scene. These small sketches are an excellent way to simplify my drawings as they do not allow for a lot of detail. Even if you are not an artist, M11325's workshop is a great experience. Conducted at the Rising Wolf Ranch outside of Glacier National Park it's a week away from cares of the world. It is off the beaten tourist path with no radio or TV and limited cell phone reception. Located adjacent to a river, the ranch is surrounded by tall pine, fir and aspen trees. The ranch house is rustic and you should not come expecting to be in the Hyatt Regency but it is comfortable with the food and camaraderie of artists beating anything you will find at Hyatt Regency."
