At the turn of the century, Rosa Murphy, the private secretary of John D. Rockefeller met Dr. Amos Canfield in New York City. They married and decided to spend their summers in Candor, N.Y. Here their Georgian home was created in the center of the village and Rosa’s elegant Victorian style became well known. Huldie’s Room. Appointed with queen size brass bed, 1860 chest of drawers, tastefully decorated room. AC, private bath, c1908.
Marcia’s Room. Furnishings - 1860 and before. King size bed, dressing room, AC. Canfield Room. Furnished with an 1823 Acorn bed made in Ithaca, NY and a Stickley style oak bedroom set made in Nichols, NY in 1906. AC.
Scott’s Room. Queen size iron and brass bed, elegant antique dresser and wash stand and Day Man’s bed add to the comfort of this large room. Private bath, c1908. AC. The William Morris Suite. Large suite appointed with queen size Charles Rogers brass bed, Oriental rugs, Morris Chair plus a comfortable sitting room with a couch containing a single pull out bed for Grandma. All is compatible with the Arts & Crafts movement.
