You are cordially invited to enjoy the beauty and comfort of our historic Vermont home. Forty Putney Road is an elegant French Provincial estate overlooking the West River and The Hogle Wildlife Sanctuary, but just an easy 3 block walk to lively downtown Brattleboro. The lawns and gardens are landscaped with stately specimen trees, including one of the largest Japanese Maples in the United States. You will feel at home and at ease, whether on vacation or business.
Forty Putney Road was built in 1930 for Dr.Charles Ripley, the director of the Brattleboro Retreat, a large, private mental hospital, established in 1834. It remained a home for various Retreat directors until the early 1980’s, when it became a private residence. It has been a bed & breakfast since the early 1990’s. The trees and gardens date from when the house was built.
Lindsay and Lowell Hanson welcome you to
their home at M12982.
Both are retired school teachers from Colorado and are enjoying Brattleboro and the fun of meeting so many interesting guests. Snoop is a mixed breed, 10 year old, sweetdog who also enjoys all the visitors at the Inn.
A delicious, full Vermont breakfast is served each day, on the patio in warm weather, or in our breakfast room. You are invited to read the morning paper with an early cup of coffee or tea.
Feel free to play the piano or guitar or play a game of chess or Scrabble. Use the extensive library of guide books to plan your activities, such as biking, hiking, golfing, canoeing, kayaking, antiquing, cross-country or downhill skiing, snowshoeing or snowmobiling.
Our Inn is set up with a wireless DSL service so guests are able to easily browse the web from their rooms or downstairs. We also have dialup modem connection in the rooms.
Our cozy pub is an intimate place to enjoy a glass of beer, wine or champagne. There is a local Vermont beer on tap and several others in bottles. The extensive wine collection includes over 30 wines from around the world. Wine is available by the glass or bottle and may be enjoyed in the house or in the backyard. A laptop computer with DSL service is provided in the pub for checking email or surfing the web.
Our Inn has four spacious bedrooms on the second floor of the main house, plus a detached, self-contained cottage. All bathrooms in the main house have original, 1930’s nickel-plated, brass fixtures
and white tile floors and walls.
All rooms are equipped with queen-sized beds, private baths with tub and shower, TV/VCR, AC, ceiling fans, bathrobes, hair dryers, irons/ironing boards, phones, modem hookups and Caswell-Massey amenities.
