Located in one of the most remote and beautiful parts of the Adirondack Mountains, M13258 sits on the Oswegatchie River flowing into the 95,000 acre Five Ponds Wilderness.
M13258is located in Wanakena, New York in the least traveled and some say, the most beautiful part of the Adirondacks-the northwest foothills. This is a land of aromatic softwoods and robust hardwoods, pristine lakes, sparkling rivers and innumerable ponds. It is the domain of the beaver and the bald eagle, the bobcat and the snowshoe hare. The terrain is rolling, with established trails leading to fine outlooks, through tall pines, past breath-taking waterfalls.
Village is surrounded by designated State Forest Preserve, yet an excellent road will carry you here. Wanakena itself is a quiet hamlet with a storied past. Begun at the turn of the nineteenth century as a mill town for the big timber that surrounded it, Wanakena was also a famous destination for the privileged class who traveled by rail to sample the fine hunting and fishing. As the lumbering era closed, the village became home to the renowned Ranger School, which continues to train young men and women in forestry. Today, Wanakena exists much as it did 100 years ago; small and well cared for, an ideal setting for the visitor seeking outdoor adventure. |
