Craig-y-Nos Castle is the former home of the opera singer Adelina Patti, who built her own small opera house within the castle. It is an old and unusual building, said to be haunted, with some very friendly ghosts (and the staff are friendly too). Magnificent views over the neighboring Brecon Beacons. Dogs are welcome and there are many excellent walks including the adjoining 40 acre country park with running streams, lakes and woods. Relax by a log fire in the evening in the Patti Bar and by day you can explore the market town of Brecon or go walking or cycling on the many off-road paths and tracks. The castle had been allowed to fall into disrepair over 60 years as a hospital, but is slowly being restored and the 15 en-suite rooms, all newly refurbished, are very good value and very pleasant.
