We’ve talked about a trip to Kodiak for years. Joe researched the various "wilderness” lodges via the internet and found Zachar Bay Lodge to be the ... view more most intriguing of all. From the moment we stepped on the floatplane, this trip has been the adventure we had hoped for and more... The excursions were tailor-made for our needs, the guides were professional yet personable, the cook was terrific and the entire staff was friendly and accommodating. Thanks Andy and Ian for navigating us through whale, halibut, salmon, puffin, otter, sea lion and bear country. Thanks Kyle for navigating us through the air. Thanks Dawn for all the great meals. And thanks to Marty and Linda who ran the show.

7  Aileen and Barry Konovitch Fishing with Bears 2007-05-17
We arrived on Sunday July 24 to a very warm reception. The family and friends went out of the way to welcome us as friends into their home. Our first day we ... view more went halibut fishing. We were able to see sea otters, fin-back whales and puffins. We were able to bring back 3 large halibut. Our second day we went to Frazer Falls to watch the bears. (We actually hung out with the bears!). We also fished salmon in Frazer River. Our third day was spent fly-fishing for salmon. Caught 11 chum. The beauty of this area as opposed to other park areas is that there are no rules and regulations. One feels that he/she is really part of the environment. To fish in the same stream as a large brown Kodiak bear has been the highlight of our trip. Thank you to the wonderful owners and staff at Zachar Bay Lodge for a true wilderness Alaskan experience. Hope to see you next year!
