If you are looking for somewhere bland and faceless with all the character of a corporate hotel then M13790 is certainly not for you. Hidden of the beaten track in between the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains is one of Wales’s best kept secrets. Among the old trees, spacious lawns and with a commanding view of the River Usk is M13790 Country House, built in 1888. The same family has run the house as a hotel and fly-fishing lodge since 1948. M13790 has 33 acres of grounds, 23 individually decorated ensuite rooms and 2.5 miles of fishing. The lodge was awarded Welsh Country Hotel of 2009 by the Good Hotel Guide.

		Just a short note to say how much we enjoyed our short stay last week. It was our silver wedding anniversary and we couldn't really have asked for a more ... view more perfect break. The hotel surpassed our expectations as did the beautiful location. The food was excellent and all the staff looked after us really well. Room 9 was lovely, especially the view of the Cedar tree each morning. Thanks again, we hope to return in the future. Eric & Patricia Young

I have not stayed with you before but know it well from growing up in the area and having had both my own and my 2 sisters wedding receptions there.Our room ( number 9) was very comfortable and spotless. The food was of a very high standard we thought ( and we are very keen on both cooking and eating out). The starters ( venison terrain and duck and crab parcels) and the main courses ( lamb and venison) were both excellent and perfectly cooked and presented. My breakfast this morning was one of my all time favourites but also one of the things I am most often disappointed in. Scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Too often over cooked eggs served with ( and not cooked with) cold salmon. So I was delighted to be served hot eggs - perfectly cooked with the salmon - and presented in the most attractive way. Fantastic. The best I have ever tasted So thank you all very much. I am glad to say that you have retained the relaxed, friendly, family run atmosphere but also have a very high standard of housekeeping and cuisine. Look forward to a return visit . Hopefully for 2 nights in one of the front bedrooms this time Melanie Falk
