M13836 offers grizzly tours and grizzly bear watching from viewing stands and wildlife tours for black bears, humpback whales, dolphins, stellar seals, sea lions, black bears and eagles.
1. How long has the business been operating and how did it start?
M13836 has been operating for over 40 years. Started as a Fishing Lodge, with the additions of Grizzly bear and Whale tours over the last few years.
2. What is your company's mission?
Our mission is to offer Wildlife tours to guests while maintaining their natural habitat and not disrupting the animals. We keep a limit distance to the animals (bears and whales).
3. What does your company specialize in?
M13836 is one of only two grizzly bear tour operators licensed to view grizzlies upriver from Knight Inlet.
4. Who is the founder or owner of the company and briefly describe his/her past activities?
Recently sold to Angus Reid from his father (original owner John Reid). Angus grew up at the Lodge, homeschooled till his was 9. He graduated school and became a carpenter, guiding during the summers. He now devotes his time to the Lodge and works construction on the side to keep himself busy.
5. What is your most popular travel package and why?
Most popular package is the 5 day 4 night. This gives you 3 nights at the lodge and 1 night in Campbell River. This package gives you one whole day at the estuary with the grizzlies, one whole day up the Kakweiken River viewing bears, and a whole day viewing whales plus more wildlife on the side.
6. What is the best compliment you received from a client?
That we offer them an at home feel, great cooking and that they left as friends. We keep in touch with many of our guests and meet up with them when we are traveling. The small group feeling is what seperates us from any other.
