Jutting from the Northern Territory's north coast, this fishing mecca includes Gurig National Park, encompassing the Peninsula, and the surrounding waters in Cobourg Marine Park. Cape Don is the site of a historic lighthouse built in 1916 which is still in operation today, and Cape Don Lodge is within the newly renovated Head Lighthouse Keeper's homestead. The 5 bedroom lodge accommodates 12 guests and provides exclusive access to spectacular coastline, remote islands and unspoilt sandy beaches of Cape Don.
Cape Don is renowned for its diverse range of sports fishing experiences making it a fisherman's paradise virtually all year round. Accessible from Cape Don are mangrove lined creeks, sandy island cays, fringing reef and rocky outcrops in deep bluewater, all ideal fishing environments. The Northern Territory’s icon fish, the barramundi, awaits the challenge of the keen angler. Our experienced guides and the use of our modern, fully equipped boats with comfortable, swivel seats and casting platform will ensure a great fishing experience.
Cape Don has access to a wide variety of saltwater fly fishing environments for the experienced or the novice fly fisherman wanting that “catch of a lifetime”. Site casting in the clear flats and estuary systems, the challenge of the big pelagic fish in the bluewater and the precision casting for barramundi amongst the mangroves are all possible fly fishing experiences. The Lodge has a fly tying station for the fly rodders wanting to try new fly styles on site with their experienced guide. Fly rods for practice or training, and specialty saltwater flies are available at the Lodge. |
