This is a small specialized school which teaches medical English as a second language to medical professionals from all over the world. This school was founded by Pikku Vichert,a well known educator with both medical and ESL background.The unique curriculum was developed over several years. Classes are small with maximum 4 students per class which allows instructors to adapt the teaching for each student. Vancouver Medical English Institute Ltd. (VMEI) belongs to BC TEAL.
Our staff is:
Pikku is the founder of the school and its principal. She is an occupational therapist with over 20 years of experience in ESL. She holds a diploma in TESOL from Vancouver Community College. Pikku developed the Medical English curriculum and the unique teaching methods used in the Institute. Pikku teaches the Core Medical English Course.
Sara Jackson is an LPN with TEFL certification. She has practiced in a variety of healthcare settings including HIV/AIDS, palliative care, complex care, homecare and occupational first aid. Since 2000 she has been teaching ESL both in Asia and in Vancouver. Sara teaches the Practicing Medical English Course.
Susan Tremills is certified in TESL and has taught for over 10 years in Japan and Vancouver. She specializes in a communicative approach to grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary. Susan teaches the Preparation for Medical English Course as well as classes in her specialties for students requiring extra concentration in those areas.
