I live in Mid-Wales and have travelled extensively in the UK and Europe. I know Wales and Northern Spain the best, but am happy to design and arrange tours across Europe. A guide with local knowledge will be able to give you a tailored tour of the best the area has to offer. Will be able to use that local knowledge to make your visit special and successful.

I am a fairly well travelled individual who has always sought to learn and appreciate the languages and cultures that I have visited. All though not a natural linguist I have ‘got by’ in Swahili, Zulu, Afrikaans, Greek, German, French and Spanish (currently ruling the roost in the ‘foreign language’ brain section.

Amongst other things I am a Stage Designer, a motorcyclist and a hopeful novelist (Arizona 1870 – the life of a half-breed Welsh/Apache). My guiding began as a use of the local knowledge accumulated through my motorbike trips to Spain. I travel the back roads and have come across those uniquely local places that are in no guide book but are real pleasure to experience.

I tailor every tour individually to suit as best possible the group I take, no tour will be the same as another.
Questions and Answers
I offer guided tours to Spain.

1. How long has the business been operating and how did it start?

My first tour (2006) was taking a group of motorcyclists on a weeks tour of Northern Spain to see 5 different species of Eagle, great motorcycling back roads, historical sites and food. It was very successful-QUOTE: ("Hola Don Duncan, well, all settled back here and off to boring reality in Manchester tomorrow..ugh! It was a great week and life seems quite flat away from our merry routine of seeing and experiencing so much I thought that without any doubt it was a really excellent week and your knowledge of the area, the history and your considerable Naturalists talents all gave a dimension to it that we would have missed completely on our own. Hasta Luego Charlie").

2. What is your company's mission?

To provide individually tailored tours with attention to every detail of the experience.

3. What does your company specialize in?

Individually designed tours that will include any particular interests of the customer but which is also likely to widen their experience of the area covered. I have a wide knowledge base (Natural History, History, Art, Literature, Geography etc) and research in any areas that seem to need more attention.

4. Who is the founder or owner of the company and briefly describe his/her past activities?

Duncan Gough. Film, T.V. and Theatre work as Designer and Construction Manager, Traveller and Writer - published book "Back Roads of Spain" Matador, unpublished Novel nearing completion. Cabinet Maker/Carpenter. Lived and worked in South Africa, Greece, Scotland, Spain and Italy, now Wales.

5. What is your most popular travel package and why?

Don't do 'packages' all tours are bespoke though themes like the '5 eagles tour' are a good starting point.

6. What is the best compliment you received from a client?

"We had such a great time with you, It's hard to believe it was only a few days!! Thank you for all you did to make our trip such a pleasure. Its marvelous that we got to visit your home-- a real treat and just a hint of the marvels of Aberystwith. My guess (knowing how our travel patterns go) is that we might get to Spain near Bilbao before we get to Wales again. But we will keep you in the loop-- no question. All the best, Nor"

What I am really writing about is to highly recommend a guide if you organize future trips to Wales (and you should; it is a spectacular area). My wife met his ... view more sister-in-law at an arts conference in Ironbridge, UK last spring and he turned out to be absolutely the best. His name is Duncan Gough (email above), about 49 yrs. old, is very artistic (theatre set design, etc.) an ornithologist, delightful personality, and very knowledgeable about things Welsh as well as other subjects. An example of his diligence: as an avid motorcyclist, he traversed our entire route in N. Wales 10 days before we arrived to be sure it all made sense and that the logistics would work. This he did without even having met us; believe me, it just guaranteed a trip that went like clockwork. Incidentally, he also does motorcycle trips in N. Spain looking for raptors! Our group of six couldn’t recommend him highly enough.

Hola Don Duncan,

Well, all settled back here and off to boring reality in Manchester tomorrow..ugh! It was a great week and life seems quite flat away ... view more from our merry routine of seeing and experiencing so much. I thought that without any doubt it was a really excellent week and your knowledge of the area, the history and your considerable Naturalists talents all gave a dimension to it that we would have missed completely on our own. Hasta Luego Charlie.

Greetings Duncan

I have very little to add to the comments made to you by Charlie - perhaps, being of a similar vintage and background, it is not ... view more surprising that our views and opinions of an excellent week are pretty much alike. For me, the small town square or village stops were much preferable to the main roadside alternative at lunchtime. A riverside adds hugely to the attraction but that seems to be less than common in Spain and may be too hard to find. The accomodations were certainly very comfortable and well priced. Overall, I thought you organised an excellent week. I saw a great deal that, without you, I would have missed and rode some super roads which your navigational skills unerringly found.

I am just a little concerned that I may now spend a little too much time looking upwards - time that could perhaps be better spent in looking where I am going!

Many thanks and best regards

Richard

We could not have been any happier with the guide services of Duncan Gough. He was absolutely wonderful to work with and my boss had an overall tremendous time ... view more touring Wales with Duncan. We wish all guides were like Duncan!
