My name is Marta, and I'm a Barcelona NATIVE and CERTIFIED tourguide. My clients say I'm very knowledgeable and professional, but also FUN, welcoming and caring for the details.
I have been always IN LOVE with my city, since my highschool years when a couple of great teachers contagiated me their PASSION for our history and architecture.
Although I look younger than I am (thanks to my mother's genes!), I started giving tours in 2000 when I passed the exam to be an oficial local tourguide. Little earlier I got hired at the Sagrada Familia Church, Gaudí's masterpiece, to be one of their protocol tourguides. I worked there for 2.5 before I quitted to become a FULLTIME FREELANCE tourguide.
Since then I've worked for some of the BEST local travel agencies and few LUXURY and GOURMET US agencies, and the concierges at the TOP Barcelona hotels (Arts, Casa Fuster, Florida...) know me well. Also those at the new hotels recently open such as W and Mandarin are starting to find my face familiar too!
I've SPECIALIZED IN PRIVATE TOURS for couples, families and small groups travelling together (friends or coworkers), and I love it! Having different people every day forces me to deliver a DIFFERENT itinerary everyday, and to adapt my explanations to different interests and styles. I've learnt to be PERSONABLE and adaptable, and I've got now many resources to make my tours FLOW.
This is why I've received many thank you letters, old clients often refer me to other people and even some of them have become friends.
I'm also very VERSATILE: I'm one of the few certified tourguides offering EPICUREAN tours (markets, food stores, tapas tours...), I can also give GARDEN tours (my grandmother passed me her love for nature), and I've got also a lot of experience showing the local JEWISH heritage.
My job also allows me to feel the CITY HEARTBEAT and be on the loop on what's up in town. And I love SHARING it with my clients! I know all the little cozy caffes, and all the chocolate and cakes stores in town, and I have a long list of favorite restaurants of all kinds!
I personally move around the city by subway and bus, but I'm used to giving tours on taxi or with drivers, so I know all the shortcuts and how to move around the city EFFICIENTLY, so we make the most out of our time together.
Also, as a certified guide I'm allowed to SKIP THE LINES to enter museums and other sites. That saves a lot of time, and in some places we'll even be given a reduced tourguide fee!
"I'm a TRAVELLER that has been to many countries in Europe (France, England, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, Luxemburg, Norway, Sweeden, Finland, Hongary, Croatia, Russia...), the US (Florida, California and NYC) and the Middle East (Turkey, Jordan, Syria). And many more places are still in my wish list!
So I know what it is to be in a foreign country where you might not speak the language nor know much about the customs. And I know sometimes you want to see as much as possible, but sometimes you can be tired, sometimes you want to learn as much as possible about a place and sometimes you just need to get the feel of it. I've developped an ability to be sensitive about people's wishes and concerns, their energy levels and SAFETY.
And I know that when I travel I also don't want to feel like a tourist but rather like a traveller and I want to INTERACT with the locals and get in touch with their world so it might start feeling a bit like being home.
That's what I always try to give to my clients, and I've become quite EMPATHIC: I'm good at grasping my clients needs and giving them what they really want.Because there is a Barcelona for every visitor!"

- University Degree on Translation and Foreign Languages, issued in 1998 by the Autonomous University of Barcelona

Questions and Answers
I'm a Barcelona Native and Certified tour guide. I offer Private Tours for couples, families and small groups travelling together.
1. How long has the business been operating and how did it start?
I started working as a tourguide in 2000. The previous summer I got a summer job at the Sagrada Familia Church, Gaudi's masterpiece, as a protocol guide (I was showing the site to the VIPs, press and other special guests) and I discovered that sharing my city and our heritage was my true passion. I was encouraged by some local guides I met there to pass the exam to become an Official Tourguide. With this license I was entitled to show people around everywhere in the Catalonia Region, so after I passed my exam I started giving tours for some local travel agencies and 5-star hotels. In 2002 I quitted the Sagrada Familia Church to be a fulltime private guide and since then I run my own guide business.
2. What is your company's mission?
Sharing Barcelona and my region with my guests and making them fall in low with our land!
3. What does your company specialize in?
Private tours for families, couples, small groups of friends. Although my first specialty was Gaudi, after over 10 years giving city tours I can say I specialise in almost anything that the city has to offer: the historical area of the Old Town, the best museums such as the Picasso, the Miró, the MNAC and many other... I also organize daytrips out of town to discover the surrounding area.
4. Who is the founder or owner of the company and briefly describe his/her past activities?
My name is Marta and I'm the owner and founder of M15393. I'm a Barcelona native and I started giving tours in 2000 after I got my official tourguide license. I'm passionated about Barcelona and I love to adapt to my clients' styles and needs: there is a Barcelona for everyone!
Before I became a tourguide I had graduated as an Interpreter and Translator by the Autonomous University of Barcelona (that's why my language skills are often complimented by my clients!). I've travelled a lot around Europe, the US and part of the Middle East. I know for personal experience what a traveller is looking for and the many moods and feelings travelling can involve, so I am very emphatic and flexible and I always try to give my guests what they need during their stay.
5. What is your most popular travel package and why?
That's hard to say...
Many people book 4 hours walking/taxi tours in any of its possible varieties: a walking tour of the Old Town or the city center, a Gaudi Tour... Moving like a local you get the best feel of the city life, plus they are more affordable than a tour with a private driver.
However, cruise passengers often choose a 4h shore excursion including a private minivan/car because it's the best way to see as much as possible in just a few hours.
As for itineraries, the Gaudi sites are definitely the Barcelona Stars. That includes Casa Batlló and Casa Milà, the Sagrada Família Church and the Park Güell.
6. What is the best compliment you received from a client?
My best compliment was made by little Hannah Boss, a 6 years old American kid travelling around Europe with her parents. After our tour wrote me a note saying:
"Thank you, thank you, thank you for being a fantastic tourguide! You have been my favorite one!"
Then she looked at me and she said "I've been with many guides on this trip," (they had been on a cruise) "... and you are the only one to whom I've written a note!"
Isn't that the best compliment anyone could get?

It was the first time that we had been to Barcelona. We're seasoned travelers, and we know how much a good, knowledgeable guide can add to a vacation.
... view more Equally we've come across too many guides for whom the process has become routine. Marta worked with us to build bespoke tours, doing the things that we wanted to do, in the time and in the fashion that we felt comfortable with. If you want to really understand a city, to take a step away from being just another tourist find a good guide; in Barcelona Marta is that choice. |

Hi Marta, just to thank you again for an enjoyable and informative day on Saturday. We all felt thoroughly briefed on Gaudi, especially after eating at the 4
... view more Gats and Casa Calvet which was very pleasant too. I will definitely recommend you to anyone I know who is coming to Barcelona for a holiday. You were such a great guide, finding us a nice bar when we were tired and flexing the day around our interests. And of course you were a very amusing source of information and great company. Your tips for places to visit later during the trip were great and we had a lovely time exploring the foodie shops around the Born on your recommendation. |

As our tour guide in June 2004, Marta was such a wonderful source of knowledge regarding the history, culture, art, music, ambiance, etc. of Barcelona and the
... view more surrounding areas. She has such a passion for making everything vibrant and fun. Marta immediately tuned into our family's interests. While we experienced all of the typical tourist attractions, we also wanted to tap into the vast Judaic history of Barcelona. She brought us to the oldest Synagogue in Europe, as well as to a recently discovered Mikvah (ritual bath) in the back of a store that was starting to renovate their space. Marta also spent hours researching the Internet to uncover other places that we visited, off the beaten path, that were reflective of the rich Jewish heritage of this area. Everyday, Marta mesmerized our 11 year old son, 8 year old daughter and my wife and me with stories, myths, folklore, etc. What a joy she was to be with and how special Marta made our touring. |
