M15573 is a traditional, co-ed residential children's summer camp situated in St. Adolphe d'Howard in the beautiful Laurentian mountains, about 60 miles north of Montreal, Canada. The camp was founded over 65 years ago by Chaim & Pearl Pripstein, and has been owned and directed by Ronnie Braverman (grandson of the founders) for the past 30 years. Ronnie, assistant director Shelley Cohen, and head counsellor Emerson Thomas look forward to seeing you next season!
Camp Population
Pripstein's is a summer home to 200 campers and CIT's ages 7-16. Our staff consists of over 80 counsellors, specialists & program staff, plus 20 kitchen, maintenance and medical staff. While a majority of campers hail from the Montreal area, over 40 campers & CIT's travel to Pripstein's from all over North America (and on occasion from outside North America).
Health
There is a camp doctor, and two nursing assistants at camp. Clinics are held twice daily in our well-equipped infirmary. The regional hospital and x-ray clinic are situated just a 15-minute drive from the camp.
Accommodation
Campers live in dormitory-style cabins. Cabins are equipped with washrooms and electrical facilities, as well as smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and emergency lights. Every night, there is at least one "O.D." (On-Duty person) in each cabin from the campers' bedtime until the counsellors' curfew.
Philosophy
We create a warm, relaxed, family atmosphere at camp through much personal attention to each camper. By making campers feel that they are at a "home away from home", they are much more at ease to participate & enjoy activities and get used to group living. In order to preserve the special feeling of closeness which we have developed at camp, we purposely limit the camp registration.
Daily Schedule
After waking up at 8:00 am on a typical day, campers have breakfast, clean up their cabins, and then proceed to 3 morning activities. Lunch & rest hour follow, and then campers have 3 afternoon activities scheduled, the last one usually being General Swim. After supper, campers have an hour of Free Play, followed by Evening Program, bedtime snack, and various bedtimes dependent on age. Younger "Junior" campers (grades 1-3) go to almost all activities with their own cabin groups. While the Inter and Senior campers go to a majority of their activities as a cabin group, they do have some individual elective choice in their schedule.
Food
Our kitchen serves tasty Kosher-style meals, including fresh vegetables and fruits twice daily. The menu features a wide variety of popular foods, and campers and staff love our famous 40-item salad bar every lunch time. Vegetarian meals are always available at our centre table during any meat meals. Campers receive daily mid-afternoon and bedtime snacks, as well as treats from the Canteen (tuck) several times a week.....and just in case anyone has hunger pangs in between all our meals and snacks, we have a fresh fruit bowl available 24 hours a day in the dining room! Parents of nut-allergic children should be aware that peanut butter is served at our camp. |
