M15970 co-owned Timothy Keating, CEO and one of the original co-founders of the company. Along with Dave Cressman, our 15 year Shasta operations manager, now COO of the corporation. Established in 1981, we are one of only 3 guide services to operate on Mt. Shasta and one of 8 guides’ services to offer in both winter and summer mountaineering climbs in the on the Inyo National Forest, Eastern Side of the Sierra Nevada including Mt. Whitney.
M15970 has been offering guided ascent of Mt. Shasta and Mt. Whitney for over 34 years. With instruction in rock climbing, ice climbing, glacier travel, alpine mountaineering, certified avalanche courses (level I and level II),back country skiing, ski touring, and mountain ski descents throughout California. We also offer international climbs,treks and expeditions to Nepal, Russia, Morocco, Mexico, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Bolivia, Tanzania, and Nepal for over 25 years.
All our guides are rigidly screened for appropriate levels of expertise and are required to annually attend our 3-day winter and summer guides training sessions and adhere to the policies of our company. All guides hold at least Wilderness First Responder, CPR, certificates. Guides also have certificates in Level I, II, and III Avalanche training and rescue.
Our senior staff is trained in "Leave No Trace" techniques which are practiced on all courses. Most Guides are members of the AMGA (American Mountain Guides Associations) with certifications and course work in various disciplines. The majority of our staff holds at least Bachelors degrees in one or more disciplines. Average age of our guides is 35, with approximately 12 years of climbing, skiing or mountaineering experience; with some long-time guides with 25 years or more experience in the mountains.

At M15970 we are professional mountain guides specializing in relaxed, practical, safe learning adventures in spectacular wilderness setting. We know how difficult it is for our clients to escape the pressures and frustration of the “daily grind” and experience the adventure they have heard or read about. We know how they want to “get away from it all” and experience the adventure they deserve. This is why for over 30 years we have developed our program of wilderness climbs and courses. We will set you free from the daily grind, teach you the skill you need to know, give you the confidence you want and our system of trip planning will allow you to attend with little time spent on preparing for your adventure. M15970 aka Sierra Wilderness Seminars Inc. our parent company, is co-owned by Timothy S. Keating, CEO, one of the original founders of the company. David Cressman, COO, Chief Operations Officer taking care of the day to day operations of M15970 out of our Mt. Shasta office. Our newest member of the ownership team is "JB" James Brown our CMO, Chief Marketing Officer, taking care of the Social Media and Marketing Development needs of M15970.
5. What is your most popular travel package and why?
Climbing Mt. Whitney via the Mountaineer's Route, due to it challenging summit at 14,505 ft. making it the highest mountain in the lower 48 states along with the spectacular beauty of the Sierra Nevada combine for an excellent adventure and challenge.
6. What is the best compliment you received from a client?
The best guided experience on any mountain, even better then RMI on Mt. Rainier and they are a hard act to follow! I will be doing other trips with you guys in the future!
