Carol and Martin Noval have lived in India for more than 25 years and have been leading cultural and adventure tours and treks in India and the Himalayas since 1998.
Martin has a Ph.D. in philosophy and has taught at universities in the US and Canada. He first visited India with the Experiment in International Living in 1965 when still an undergraduate at NYU. That two-month trip led to his life-long study of philosophy. After completing his Ph.D. in philosophy in 1973 he intended to travel around the world for a year before becoming a professor, but came to a full stop when he reached India and has been there ever since. He never did get all the way around. Carol has a BA in Education and was a New York City public school teacher. She left the States on a round-the-world trip in 1974 and fell in love with India too.
We speak Hindi and are knowledgeable about most things Indian: history, philosophy, Hinduism and Buddhism, myth, art and architecture, culture and customs, literature, traditional medicine and yoga, and wildlife. We've explored and studied the famous attractions and little-known wonders of this ancient but still-living culture, and lived among people from the many social, cultural and historical backgrounds that are the Indian nation.
We are veteran trekkers and explorers of the Himalayas and were some of the first foreigners to visit the tribal lands of Kinnaur and Spiti when they were opened to the outside world. We spent four months there exploring villages, monasteries and hiking trails, and have led tours and treks in this fascinating region. Our treks are prominently featured in the book that Martin has written on philosophy and our adventures in the Himalayas. |
