The Whirinaki Rainforest Experiences program is operated by M16889 under a Department of Conservation concession.
We’ve been operating in the Whirinaki rainforest since 1994, offering walks and other guided experiences to international visitors and Kiwis alike continuously since that time.
Our guiding staff are all Maori, whose whakapapa (ancestry) is traced to the Iwi (tribes) of the Central North Island region. As such, you will be receiving a truly authentic indigenous cultural experience.
Many of the myths and legends told by our guides are those learned from their parents and grandparents, in the manner of the old tribal tradition, being passed from generation to generation.
We offer you a Walk with a Story. And it’s one which is told by the tangata whenua (the original people of the land), not by those who have found their way into this mountainous country only in more recent times.
