Small group driver/guided private customized tours of the UK, Ireland and continental Europe. I have worked and am widely traveled across the British Isles and mainland Europe and am steeped in their varied history and culture. My tours are tailored to the requirements of each client, reflecting their requirements and interests re duration, places to be visited and type of accommodation (usually high quality B and Bs).
I provide a suitable vehicle (car or van). Each tour is individually cost and an itinerary in consultation with the client(s). The group size is normally between 2 and 8 persons. I have been offering this service since 2005, undertaking tours of England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, France, Italy and central Europe (including Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia and Hungary).

Customized driver guided, independent small group tours with a knowledgeable, friendly host across the British Isles and continental Europe. Each tour is tailored to the clients' wishes.
1. How long has the business been operating and how did it start?
M16976 has been operating since 2001 with both new and repeat clients. It started by my putting tours together for friends. This proved so successful that I decided to make a business of it.
2. What is your company's mission?
To plan, arrange and deliver the best possible customized, driver guided touring experience.
3. What does your company specialize in?
Customized driver guided tours across the British Isles and/or continental Europe visiting cities and scenic countryside steeped in culture and history, hosted by a well informed and entertaining guide.
4. Who is the founder or owner of the company and briefly describe his/her past activities?
The founder, John Greenwood, has travelled extensively across Europe and has worked in many European countries. This, together with his lifelong interest in British and European history and culture, gives him an unrivalled customized tour hosting capability.
5. What is your most popular travel package and why?
I don't offer 'packages' as every tour is individually customized. I take on board the client's wishes and put a bespoke tour together incorporating my own suggestions, including quality B&B accommodation and meals en route.
6. What is the best compliment you received from a client?
I received an email the day sfter a tour saying 'missing you already'.

His historical knowledge of the continent is truly impressive, as is his football knowledge (He's a great choice for soccer tours!!!). I am considering another tour with John in the future, and would recommend anyone to do the same in mainland Europe and/or in the UK. Though we took our vacation several years ago, John and I still communicate often. I now consider him my friend across the pond!

My first trip to England was even better than I imagined! Traveling with my sister, we met John at the airport and began a wonderful journey through the

Although our time was limited to about 1 week, we submitted a wish list of places to visit that would be a challenge, but we really did fit a gallon into a pint and were able to see so many amazing sites! Some of my favorites include the Roman Baths, Glastonbury Tor, and driving through the beautiful mountains in Wales. Another bonus was attending a concert one night of a band called the New Rope String Band. Whenever I play their album, I'm reminded of our awesome trip. John is a wonderful, knowledgeable, well read tour guide who is also great company on a long drive with fun conversation and laughter to last mile after mile. I feel so lucky to have met John. My siblings and I look forward to planning a trip to Ireland with him some day soon. |

... view more tours across the British Isles and mainland Europe, this is my first negative review. I now know what recipients of an atypical, adverse review on Trip Advisor must feel. Mrs Neifert is entitled to her opinion but I cannot let it go unanswered. The tour of Ruritanian castles (not of cities) was for her daughter who declared herself delighted describing it to a third party. The start point of Berlin was specified by Mrs Neifert which I had visited before. I have also hosted tours to Dresden, Theresienstadt, Prague, Cesky Krumlov, Seefeld, Neuschwanstein and Rothenburg (also visited on my many previous tours of Germany, Czech Republic and Austria). Shortly after the tour, Mrs Neifert emailed, giving me 24 hours notice to reach a financial accommodation. I was hosting a tour in France so couldn't meet this ultimatum as benchmarking of alternative driver only tours was required. She then immediately made a claim to her credit card company, the outcome of which is still undetermined. We were not lost, just faced with a small town between Potsdam and Wittenberg, whose centre was being resurfaced, requiring a diversion. The signed diversion would delay us so I found an alternative, a short stretch of which was unmetalled, but got us to Wittenberg in good time. The only day we didn't get everywhere on the itinerary was because Mrs Neifert wanted to visit Schwangau castle (as well as Neuschwanstein) which was unscheduled. The days were full but this could resulted from Mrs Neifert reducing the length of the tour by two days before the itinerary was finalised. To be called over zealous is a strange criticism. Me thinks Mrs Neifert protests too much. |

His knowledge of European history and culture, not just that of Britain, was clearly encyclopaedic, as our conversations ranged far and wide on our memorable journey. I fully intend to go back for another tour of Europe hosted by John. To say that he 'should be avoided at all costs' is a travesty. Anyone reading that might believe this outrageous statement. I know this to be an unwarranted slur on someone who was far more than just adequate. He provided the best tour experience of my life. I would highly recommend John's tours to anyone!!! |

Mr. Greenwood states that he is an "expert" tour guide, when in fact he is nothing more than a well traveled tourist himself. We contracted with him
... view more for a 9 day tour of Germany, Czech Republic and Austria last June. By the second day we realized he had little knowledge of the cities on our itinerary, which he created. We discussed his lack of experience the second day and told him to leave and we would continue the trip on our own. He agreed to continue driving us, waive the 200 pound per day fee and accept his food and lodging for exchange for driving. Now, 4 months later we are still fighting with him to get him to live up to his agreement. We are out almost $3000!
He was not even an adequate driver. We had to navigate, a chore we took over when we ended up on an unpaved, dirt road-hopelessly lost. His itinerary was over zealous and he did not know driving times. We missed much of what he had on his itinerary despite long days of touring.
John is personable and he may be adequate in England, but do not trust his expertise in any other country. |
