Tuatapere is a small pioneering town built alongside the mighty Waiau River. Situated not far from the rugged Southwest coast, Tuatapere offers the gateway to Southwest Fiordland, Lake Hauroko & the Dusky Track.
Lake Hauroko is the deepest known lake in New Zealand. It is completely natural with no man made interference, and is a spectacular start to the Dusky Track.
The Dusky Track is a spectacular four to eight day tramp through the finest alpine scenery of Southwest Fiordland. The track can only be accessed by boat and Lake Hauroko Tours are the only operators to offer a scheduled service via Lake Hauroko. This tramp stands alongside the other great Fiordland tramps such as The Milford Track, Kepler Track and The Hump Track.
