|Questions and Answers
We provide high-quality French courses.
1. How long has the business been operating and how did it start?
M17180 was established in 1998 as an institute to teach French as a foreign language. In June of 1999, M17180 became affiliated with the University de Savoie as the DELF and DALF diploma examination center for Haute Savoie.
2. What is your company's mission?
M17180 provides French language instruction for beginning, intermediate and advanced students. Certified with the label “French Foreign Language Quality”, the courses follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (levels A1, A2, B1, and B2) and are available year round.
3. What does your company specialize in?
As M17180 is not an overwhelmingly large school, students benefit from small classes with a maximum of 12 students. The intimate size allows for personalized attention and enables our teachers to help students reach their goals. M17180 is also a testing center for the DELF and DALF exams. Testing is offered eight times throughout the year, and preparatory courses are available.
In addition, educational activities are provided to further enhance the students’ experiences and allow them to practice French in a non-classroom setting. M17180 welcomes students from around the world and has a very diverse student body. In 2010, 46 different nationalities were represented by 208 students. Seeing student converse naturally with each other in French during our coffee breaks is very rewarding. It is nice to see the students using the French language as a catalyst to get to know each other.
4. Who is the founder or owner of the company and briefly describe his/her past activities?
Jean-François Stellio created M17180 in 1999 and has been its director since. He holds a Master’s in Lettres Modernes (Literature) as well as a Master’s and DEA in French as a Foreign Language. Mr. Stellio has taught French language and culture in China, Germany and Lebanon as well as his native France. He decided to open a DELF and DALF examination in his native town of Annecy, and thus M17180 was created.
5. What is your most popular travel package and why?
Our Option B, which provides 15 hours of classes in the morning during the week. In 2011, this has been the most requested level of registration.
6. What is the best compliment you received from a client?
Most of us who have learned foreign languages know the feeling of an inner ‘barrier’ in ‘expressing ourselves’ when it comes to speaking. At M17180, this wasn’t a problem. In small groups, in a familiar, caring atmosphere, with well-sized homework and after class meetings, we could sense how day by day we were opening ourselves, knowing each other, building up friendships, exactly as we were! And we made all this a lot of fun by savouring the pleasure of communication... In the classroom and outside of it, in the splendid city of Annecy,” Eva Barabas, Romania (2010)
