Dar Loughat is a professional language center in Morocco providing intensive courses in all levels of Modern Standard Arabic and Colloquial Moroccan Arabic throughout the year.

Founded in 2004 in the heart of the city of Tetouan in northern Morocco, our school has rapidly established a strong and well-respected reputation as a cross-cultural center in the Arab world.

The city of Tetouan, declared a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, stands out for its strategic location, as it is less than sixty kilometers from Algeziras in Spain northwards and sixty kilometers from Tangier in the western direction. The small size of the city allows students to get easily integrated and immersed into the local culture, which is famous for its legendary generosity and tolerance.

While studying Arabic in Tetouan, students can enjoy the city’s excellent beaches, which are undoubtedly among the most beautiful in the entire Mediterranean area, its ever green Rif Mountains which spread eastwards along a distance of more than 500 kilometers and its five century old Medina.

The school is fully equipped with the latest audio-visual material, modern language labs, wireless internet connection and a small library that contains a considerable number of books on a variety of topics. The flexibility of the starting dates and the program length allows students to attend Arabic classes anytime throughout the year, from a week to a complete academic year.

At our school, students benefit from small size classes of between three and eight students (maximum), and a wide range of excursions, social and cultural activities allowing them to get the most out of their international experience. The school welcomes a diverse and international student body throughout the year. Students from Europe, North America and Asia come to learn Arabic and discover Morocco’s rich and unique cultural legacy at our school.

Language courses are given by enthusiastic, multilingual, qualified and experienced teachers, exclusively dedicated to teaching Arabic to non-native speakers. All classes are given in Arabic, except for complete beginners, where the student’s mother language is used to the minimum.

Through various immersion and language exchange activities, our school provides its students with daily contact with Moroccan life, allowing them to expand their vocabulary, improve their spoken language performance and better understand the local culture.

All was great at Dar Loughat – the word “family” comes to mind. The staff was all very friendly, caring and accommodating, yet very professional.

I chose Morocco over other Arab countries by chance but I’m so glad because people made me feel so welcome and the culture is truly fascinating. The people here are amazing. I felt as if they would do anything to help me have a good experience. I was here for a short time but they helped me make the most of it. ... view more I wish I had brought small “American” gifts to say thank you for the amazing Moroccan hospitability.

3  Margaret Morelli Great time at Dar Loughat!
I had a great time at Dar Loughat. I came not knowing any Arabic, and left feeling that I had learned quite a lot (a lot more than I thought it was possible to learn in a month!). Tetouan is a unique city, in a really interesting part of Morocco, with a culture all its own. My favourite memories of my time here ... view more will be with my wonderful host family. They taught me specific things about Islam and Moroccan culture, but through getting to know them I came to appreciate their view of the world and current events. I was a little worried about the way they would feel about an American coming to live with them, but they were really interested in my culture; we carved a Moroccan squash like a jack o later on Halloween. They taught me about their cooking, and how to dance like a Moroccan for my host sister’s birthday party.
