Amigos de Iracambi, located in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest, has worked since 2000 to build up a solid record of community-based conservation and development activities where ideas generated in our research center are trialled on our forest farm and implemented through our NGO.
Our conservation focus includes reforestation with native species, creating forest corridors to link strategic areas of threatened forest, and acquiring threatened forestland through our Forest Futures Program.
Sustainable development activities aim to create alternative incomes for forest farmers. Iracambi Medicinal Plants develops products based on native forest medicinals, Farm Forestry works to farm the forest and forest the farm, while Payment for Environmental Services focuses on water and carbon credits, rural and ecotourism.
These programs are backed by our programs in GIS, Environmental Education, and Public Policy, implemented and supported by staff, students, volunteers and advisers from thirty-five countries, working together saving forests and changing lives. |
