1. How long has the business been operating and how did it start?

The company was founded in March 2000. The owner Urpo Heikkinen graduated from an international wilderness guide course in Kuru, Finland and after that founded Upitrek.

2. What is your company's mission?

We want to offer active tours in small groups in the heart of Finnish nature in concordance with the nature.

3. What does your company specialize in?

Our company is specialized in unmotorized treks in eastern Finland. In winter our main products are cross-country ski, snowshoeing and multiactivity tours and in summer hiking, cycling and multiactivity tours.

4. Who is the founder or owner of the company and briefly describe his/her past activities?

The founder and the owner of the company is Mr. Urpo Heikkinen. Originally he is a builder of education but in the end of 1990´s it was hard to find that work in eastern Finland. So Urpo decided to join an international wilderness guide course of 1 year in 1999. After graduating he founded Upitrek to employ himself. Urpo has always been and still is the only full-time employee of Upitrek but during high seasons several guides work for the company.

5. What is your most popular travel package and why?

The most popular travel package is "Ski tour on the Russian border". It was our very first tour and it has been the most popular all the time. One of the reasons may be that there are not so many such cross-country ski tours available in Finland nor elsewhere in Europe. We can usually offer very good conditions for cros-country skiing.

6. What is the best compliment you received from a client?

We are happy to have many clients who have participated our tours several times so we believe we have offered them good travel experiences. Especially many ski tour clients retun from year to take part in our ski tours. We have also had clients that have participated a winter tour and then return in summer or vice versa.
