1. How long has the business been operating and how did it start?

Ownership of land and resort by current owners took place on October 9th 1991. That same year the resort operations began running successfully by its new owners, while with previous ownership M19901 was operated as a research facility. The company has transitioned M19901 from a research facility to a full service upscale hideaway and water sport resort, with other expansions such as the only airstrip on the turneffe atoll. Prior to acquiring blackbird resort, the Feinstein group also owned and operated Manta resort, another dive/snorkel resort on the well-developed atoll of glover's reef in Belize. For them, opening another dive resort situated on another one of Belize's atolls was their next step and goal for successfully expanding the tourism industry.

2. What is your company's mission?

Our mission is to provide world class tourist related products such as diving, snorkeling, and kayaking for vacations and tourist destinations in the Caribbean. To offer more affordable dive, snorkel, and kayak packages and also more accessible than our competitors. Belize is a destination for the diver, the bird watcher, the adventurer and the nature lover. Belize boasts the second largest barrier reef in the world, which is the largest unbroken and interrupted only by some of the world's most beautiful islands such as Blackbird. We would like for tourist to experience this all for themselves at M19901.

3. What does your company specialize in?

We specialize in Scuba Diving. Diving the Turneffe Atoll is legendary with vertical walls just beyond the coral reef in front of the resort. These dramatic walls extend for miles in both directions giving the diver unlimited opportunity to experience large tube sponges, giant basket sponges, purple sea fans, curious reef fish, huge schools of jewfish, permit, snapper, and jack and endless varieties of tropical fish. We also specialize in snorkeling where the guest has unlimited access to the reef only a few dozen yards from the M19901 pier. Fishing the waters of Turneffe also has spectacular results. The combination of lagoon, reef and deep sea offers fishermen an unusually wide variety of sport fishing. Kayaking is free to guests and we also offer kayak expeditions for experienced kayakers. Bird watching is available for the nature lovers. M19901 has 27 species of birds to observe. M19901 is also ideal for special individual or group retreats.

4. Who is the founder or owner of the company and briefly describe his/her past activities?

M19901 is a Feinstein Group of Companies. The company has spent the last 20 years as one of the most prominent and distinguished firms in Belize's tourism industry. It has been the leader in developing world-class resort hotels and a multitude of tourism-related products in Belize. This includes two of Belize's most prominent dive resorts, which sit on pristine beachfront properties, and an inland spa resort overlooking the ancient Mayan ruins. In 2000, the Feinstein Group of companies set the wheels in motion to establish the cruise ship industry in which it launched a first of its kind facility to receive and accommodate the arrival of cruise ship guests. Our team consists of seasoned managers and experts whose background and experience make them ideally suited to their respective roles, furthermore making our companies a success.

5. What is your most popular travel package and why?

Our most popular travel package is our dive package. Mainly because there are 70+ dive sites located near the resort. With an average of 12 minutes to reach them. Belize offers the best diving in the Caribbean. Belize is home to the 2nd largest barrier reef and home to 3 of the 4 atolls in the entire Western hemisphere. It is a must for those wanting to the dive and snorkel the best.

1  Sandra Lockhart pristine diving, awesome location, great staff 2012-01-12

I stayed at M19901 on November 8th 2011 for 7 days. The weather was perfect! Sunny everyday with a nice tropical breeze at night. ... view more My husband and I spent everyday diving with chris and cardinal. Best divemaster and captain I have ever met, so helpful and knowledgable about the areas. There were so many dive sites that even in 7 days we didn't manage to see all. Turneffe atoll is gorgeous, pristine, and has so much wildlife to see. The blue hole trip was a must see for us, and we spent the day at the lighthouse and half moon caye and the staff prepared a barbeque out there for us. The rooms were always clean, and the view at night from the bar was incredible, so many stars in the sky. Every evening we would go by the bar and have some snacks, take a few drinks and relax. Although there was no internet we didnt miss, it relieved us from the stresses of everyday life. My husband wanted to do some fishing also, unfortunately they do not offer fishing on the resort. But besides that Belize and blackbird are extraordinary places, a unique untouched paradise. I would recommend this place to anyone who appreciates beauty, peace, and a natural pristine surrounding.
Room Tip: The superior room was absolutely cozy and clean.

I went here for Easter with my boyfriend and absolutely Loved it! From the first day to the last we enjoyed every bit of it. The resort has its own airstrip so ... view more it made it quite easy and quick to arrive by plane from the mainland. The staff were so helpful and displayed the warmest, sweetest hospitality. The food was delish, the cook Ms. Lita makes some great local dishes (to believe is to taste)! There are tours, amazing diving and snorkeling adventures, and lots of daily activities for kids even. We also enjoyed our clean and comfy room with the breathtaking view of the Caribbean Sea right out front! An experience like this would definitely have to be relived over and over, that's why we fell in love and we're heading back!!

We just got back from a week at Blackbird Caye. We met some friends of our that we have dove with in Austrailia (and met some new ones). When we arrived at the ... view more airport, our ride was waiting for us. He took us to the hotel in town were we had a pleasant lunch and enjoyed the view. We then left on 1.5 hour ride to the island. The ride was pleasant but a bit windy. (Make sure to take your sunscreen out and apply for the ride.) Once we arrived at the island, we had a short briefing and then were shown to our rooms. We stayed in cabana #12 which was really nice. The housing is primarily individual huts. Ours had a king bed, separate spacious living area, bathroom with drinkable water and a hot shower. My favorite part is the screened-in front porch (with seating and a hammock) that faces east and toward the water. The sunrises were beautiful.

If you are looking for a relaxing remote dive vacation, this would be the place. Cardinal, our divemaster was wonderful. He always managed to spot the rays and eels before we would ever see them. We also saw a bunch of very friendly turtles. He is knowledgeable, very safety conscience and would join us in the lounge for happy hour while we looked at pictures from the dive each evening, while we tried to identify all the types of fish that we saw. We think his favorite fish was the juvinelle drum fish! Chris, the boat driver, was fantastic, followed our bubbles every time and made sure we were well taken care of. Leticia was our hostess, waitress and bartender. She made us feel like part of the family. She also makes a mean Pina Colada. The 3 dives a day were great. Our favorite day was Tuesday where we dived the Blue Hole and the Aquirium site. Our last day was great on the way back from our last dive we got to get back in the water with some migrating pilot whales. Overall, it was a great trip with good facilities, good food and great diving.
