M20227 is one of the largest and most experienced tourism operators in Nepal, specializing in trekking & touring adventures in Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan.
1. How long has the business been operating and how did it start?
M20227 first began when owners, Ram Barakoti and Basu Panday, met while completing their Masters in Business Studies at university. The company has been operating since 1999, and has built up a strong team with a large knowledge and experience base. As the company has been operating for so long, they are able to provide excellent services but at affordable prices.
2. What is your company's mission?
M20227’s mission is to provide professional, quality service along with great value to our clients. Our team takes pride in planning outstanding trips for individual requirements, and values each guest not only as a customer but also as part of the family.
3. What does your company specialize in?
Our company specializes in creating opportunities for people to discover the beauty of Nepal and its neighbours through trekking, touring and adventure excursions. We enable people to experience the stunning landscapes and become immersed in the rich culture of the different regions.
4. Who is the founder or owner of the company and briefly describe his/her past activities?
Ram Barakoti and Basu Panday are the founders and directors of M20227. The company began in 1999 after the pair met at university, while completing their Masters of Business Studies. Ram handles the general administration, foreign relationships, human resources and partner contracts while Basu is a liscened trekking, touring and climbing guides with vast experience leading groups in the field.
5. What is your most popular travel package and why?
Our most popular travel packages are the Everest Base Camp trek and the Annapurna Circuit trek. Both of these world famous treks enable people to travel to the heart of the Himalayas and witness some of the most breathtaking scenery imaginable. They also provide an amazing opportunity to experience and become immersed in the rich culture of the Sherpa people.

... view more your trips as pleasant and memorable as possible. I highly recommend having them arrange all your outdoor activities (and more) for you. For one thing, you’ll never pay too much, but that’s just one aspect of it.
Upon arrival, they arranged a nice guesthouse for me (not one of those dingy ones that are all over Thamel), lent me a pair of hiking shoes and a backpack and invited me to a nice welcome dinner to tell me about the trip. The pictures were great! I did part of the Annapurna circuit, couldn’t do the whole thing to base camp due to time constraints. But who knows, one day!
Next day, I was on my way! I'm used to traveling alone, so it was a nice break not having to think about anything. Bus, accommodation, food, everything was taken care of. My guide was extremely knowledgeable and cheerful, which made the hikes a breeze! Before I could get hungry or thirsty, he made sure I got plenty of yummy tea or food.
When I came back to Thamel, it felt I was greeted back by friends. That's really the way this organization is run: once you're 'in' they won't forget about you. I highly recommend arranging your outdoor activities (and more) through them. Thanks, guys! |

M20227 guides were incredibly supportive, responsible, and fun. They took care of everything and were highly dependable, flexible and accommodating. It's a great trekking company that tries to make you feel at home when you feel incredibly away from home - plus all proceeds went to Nepal Orphans Home (the orphanage they help to support). Be sure to bring adequate supplies and gear - most of which are available in Kathmandu: Diomox, iodine tablets, garlic pills, grapefruit seed extract, charcoal pills, anti-biotics, lots of TP, wet-wipes, lots of warm gear, a warm sleeping bag (sub-zero), trekking poles, comfortable shoes, chocolate, and dried fruits. Make sure drink plenty of water to stay healthy.

... view more in pregnancy. We had only 2 weeks and wanted to see Kathmandu, the 3 ancient cities in Kathmandu valley, fly to Everest and make a trek in Annapurna region. We were very lucky to have M20227 agency organize everything for us. In the beginning we wanted to be as independent as possible, just wanted a sherpa to help carry my bag as I was quite pregnant at that time. At the end we ended up having Ram from M20227 organizing also all the air tickets for us, accommodation and it just worked great. Ram is extremely helpful, he understood our special needs, adjusted the trek as we wanted, booked tickets for very good prices and even brought us personaly to the airport! We had a KB as a sherpa. It turned out he is actually a guide but my bag was small enough to take the sherpa job as well. He was SOOO nice. In the beginning he struggled a bit with our strange wishes of trekking in less known areas and we had to get used to his English but at the end everything worked out very well and we all had a deal of fun. If we are back to Nepal definitely again with M20227 and KB as a guide. Such nice and honest people! Not like other places in Asia where you get ripped off so often. Namaste! |

Well, all I can say is a big thank you to Ram and all the staff at M20227 for making my trip to Annapurna Base Camp the most memorable and amazing experience I
... view more have had. I had no idea what to expect or if I would be able to complete the trip. However, as soon as the trek began, despite the realization of the days ahead, I was reassured by my guide and soon became more confident as the days moved on that I would achieve what we set out to do.
The trip was enduring, testing and thoroughly enjoyable in every way and I would highly recommend anyone who was considering trekking Nepal to consider Ram and his team to support them in arranging a trip. I was always reassured that the pace we set was going to ensure we made base camp on schedule, and more to the point, the approach that the guide and porter adopted soon rubbed off on me and we settled into a comfortable routine that would ensure we would achieve base camp. The guide and porter could not do enough for me throughout the trip, even when I was suffering with illness, and ensured that I was accommodated where possible and my health and well being was always a priority. For that, I thank you KB and Govinda. |
