Anton Harfst and Laurien van den Hoven form the strong and dedicated team of M20727. Writing with light – photography – is their passion.
Anton and Laurien capture the contrasting sceneries of Greece and the Netherlands: the rugged mountainous Greek scenery versus the flat and organized expanses in Holland.
In Greece they photograph the unique landscape with the many remains of its ancient past as perfect props. In the Netherlands they focus on the art of omission. They share their passion for photography with the participants in the various courses and tours M20727 offers in Greece and the Netherlands. Anton and Laurien use their teaching and organization skills to see their ‘students’ go home with plenty of photos, new skills, more experience and lots of energy to bring their photography to a new level.
Anton Harfst – teacher, outdoor photographer & photo editor
Leads the photo workshops and tours; works as freelance photographer. Anton shoots with Nikon and prints with Canon. “Originally trained as a language teacher, I have become a photographer and photo editor. My pedagogical education suits me perfect. No workshop participant is the same. Guiding enthousiastic photographers is a rewarding job.”
Laurien van den Hoven – writer/photographer & trainer
Organises and guides the photography courses, tours and teamcoaching, writes articles. Laurien shoots with a Nikon D40 and a Sony Nex. “I enjoy combining many elements from my rich career into M20727. My experience as (project) manager and trainer comes in handy in developing our programs and guiding the participants. During the photography field trips I tell about history, culture, economy – using my background as an anthropologist. Photography is a Greek word literally meaning writing with light. It is great to see that the stories invite our participants to photograph even more when they realise what they are ‘writing’.”
Anton and Laurien married in 1992. They have been living fulltime in Greece from 2006 untill 2011. Currently they spend spring and autumn in Greece and summer and winter in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, the latter being the official base of the company.

We organize photography short courses and photography vacations in the beautiful area of the Peloponnese, Southern Greece.
1. How long has the business been operating and how did it start?
We started our business in 2008. We love the Great Greek Outdoors. Based in Xirokambi, Sparta we explore the Lakedaemon Valley and the surrounding mountains with our cameras. Coming from the flat expanses of the Netherlands, we love the rugged, mountainous scenery and the lush valleys. The colours of the land and the authentic character of its people make for great outdoor photography. We capture the unique landscape with the many remains of its ancient past as perfect props.
We share our love for the Peloponnese and photography with the participants of the photo courses and vacations.
2. What is your company's mission?
We like to see our participants go home with plenty of photos, new skills, more experience and lots of energy to bring their photography to a new level.
3. What does your company specialize in?
We are specialized in outdoor photography. The Great Greek Outdoors is also our classroom. During the photography vacations and courses short theoretic introductions are combined with plenty of time for photography in nature, in picturesque towns and villages, on ancient sites.
4. Who is the founder or owner of the company and briefly describe his/her past activities?
Our company is established by the Dutch couple Anton Harfst and Laurien van den Hoven. Anton Harfst is outdoor photographer. Originally trained as a language teacher (Dutch and German), he has become a photographer and photo editor. Laurien has twenty years of experience in the organization and management of public awareness activities and campaigns for non-profit companies, in both the Netherlands and Greece.
5. What is your most popular travel package and why?
Capturing the Greek Light is our most popular travel package. This 8-day photography vacation combines wonderful places on and off the beaten track, and allows you to indulge in the Greek cuisine. Our participants love to explore the fascinating scenery of the Peloponnese together with professional photographers Anton Harfst, and learn how the capture the essence of Greece.
6. What is the best compliment you received from a client?
People coming back within six months - bringing friends along - because they absolutely love this part of Greece, and really appreciate our enthusiasm for the Peloponnese and our teaching skills.
