1. How long has the business been operating and how did it start?

M20818 has been operating since 2001. It began in 1990 as a collective of cyclists who enjoyed the challenge and exhilaration of riding some of the most remote and spectacular roads in the world. As a direct result of these experiences we decided to begin taking small groups of friends and acquaintances to areas that offer not only fantastic cycling, but are also of immense cultural interest. The success of these tours encouraged us to start a small company.

2. What is your company's mission?

Our mission is to deliver exciting and rewarding cycle tours within a price range that we, as seasoned travelers, think is reasonable. Without cutting any corners on safety or (where possible) comfort, our tours are informal, and designed to cover areas that we as cyclists, have enjoyed immensely. We are committed to ensuring that our tours not only support the local economies but also respect the local cultures. We do this by employing local guides and drivers, staying mostly in family run accommodation and where possible building relationships with the local communities.

3. What does your company specialize in?

Cycling tours to the more remote parts of the planet.

4. Who is the founder or owner of the company and briefly describe his/her past activities?

Dermot Macward. Dermot has had a wide range of jobs before setting this company, from welder in his native Scotland, to a mental health crisis worker in London. He has traveled extensively throughout the world, and has a passion for finding areas of the globe that are less explored.

5. What is your most popular travel package and why?

Our Laos tour is our most popular cycling holiday. We've now been running this trip for more than 8 years. Laos is a beautiful, quiet country and still relatively untouched by the western values. It is mountainous and land-locked, with a population of only 6 million who have a reputation for being amongst the most welcoming and friendly people in the world. With spectacular scenery and a rich and diverse culture, what better way could there be to see Laos than the view from a bike?

6. What is the best compliment you received from a client?

Graham Searle Oxfordshire, England We had a fantastic time on the tour. We were hoping that it would be a really memorable experience, but it absolutely exceeded our expectations all the way. We came back firmly believing that cycle touring is the very best way to see a country, and that Laos is one of the very best countries in the world to see. Everything about it was pretty much spot-on - the route, accommodation and food were great. The overall atmosphere was really good - in a group that size, I think that it's actually pretty impressive that there weren't any major issues in two weeks. I think that the effect of the personalities leading the group can't be underestimated. Dermot and Ken were fantastic, it's a tricky thing that you do but your cheerful and friendly ways really do make a difference. It's obvious that you both take a personal interest in each individual and how they're getting on/ enjoying the trip - that's appreciated.
