1. How long has the business been operating and how did it start?
M20947 was born in 2008 out of a passion for "cultural adventures". The owner, Karen Hogue, had worked for a well-known "brick and mortar" travel agencies, but wanted to have the freedom and ability to book the kind of travel that she was personally interested in - custom journeys designed to get you off the beaten path and into the heart of a culture.
2. What is your company's mission?
Our company's mission is to make the world a bit smaller through socially responsible travel. Travel is the best way to learn more about other cultures, and in turn learn more about ourselves. Our "cultural adventures" give clients an opportunity to get out of the major tourist traps and into the heart of a country where they can meet real people, eat authentic food, experience local life, and come home knowing more about themselves.
3. What does your company specialize in?
We specialize in custom itineraries to Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand, Myanmar (Burma), Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.
4. Who is the founder or owner of the company and briefly describe his/her past activities?
Karen Hogue started her career as a travel agent in 2001, about six months before a September event that would change world history. In 2002, she and her boyfriend-turned-husband set off to live in Asia, moving to Taiwan and teaching English for four years. During that time, her absolute love for Southeast Asia grew. She spent as much time as possible in Thailand and even decided to get married there (which was much less expensive than a big wedding at home in Seattle)! Since returning to Seattle, Karen goes back to Southeast Asia at least once a year, and usually 2 or 3 times. She has developed close relationships with land operators all over Southeast Asia and maintains her knowledge of properties and tours through her frequent visits.
5. What is your most popular travel package and why?
All of our itineraries are customized to meet the desires of the individual client. I do not think I've ever sold the same itinerary twice! That is what makes M20947 special.
6. What is the best compliment you received from a client?
The best compliment you can give us is always a referral to friends and family! I have worked with multiple branches of the same family tree, close friends and distant relatives, all stemming from a single couple who loved their trip (and subjected everyone to their great slideshow).
