1. How long has the business been operating and how did it start?
M5120 has been in business since 2003. I started it shortly after obtaining my NYC sightseeing license.
2. What is your company's mission?
M5120 mission is to provide visitors to NYC with
"real NY experiences".
3. What does your company specialize in?
We specialize in tours/experiences throughout NYC. We take folks beyond the usual tourist sites and help them get into the "sights and sounds" that makes NYC the unique place that it is. We offer tasting tours, knitting "crawls" and custom tours to the "Old Neighborhood" and beyond. Also, I offer Food tours in Astoria Queens-one of the most diverse neighborhoods in New York, on the Lower East-side - home to many immigrants, a Chocolate Tour through the East Village, Soho and Tribeca and a Knitting Crawl (a pub crawl without beer but with and a Knitting Crawl (a pub crawl without beer but with yarn), Chelsea and the Highline as well as Harlem.
4. Who is the founder or owner of the company and briefly describe his/her past activities?
Susan Mills Birnbaum is the founder of M5120. She is a native New Yorker who has been working with people for many years. Susan has been interested in history throughout her life and holds a BA in History from Hunter and an MSW from Rutgers. In 2010 Susan was honored by the Bronx Tourism Council as an "ambassador" for the Bronx. She has also been a "Big Apple Greeter" and is a docent at Museum of the City of New. Susan is on the Executive Board of GANYC - The Guides Association of New York. M5120 NYC Walkabouts Ave Walkabous has been featured in the NY Times, The NY Daily News, Timeout NY and the Riverdale Press.
NYC and Co named the Arthur Ave Walkabout as one of the best walking tours in NYC in 2011.
5. What is your most popular travel package and why?
Our most popular tour at this time is the Arthur Ave Walkabout- Arthur Ave. in a wonderful Italian enclave in the Bronx and we call it the "real" Little Italy in the Bronx. We taste our way through this wonderful neighborhood that is like a walk back in time and recalls the 40s and 50s in the the Bronx.
6. What is the best compliment you received from a client?
Susan has a very contagious love of the Bronx and a large bank to great trivia and wonderful places - makes for a fun event!
