Piedras Negras is a large property five miles from Jarabacoa, a mountainous area in the center of the Dominican Republic. It is being developed by artists Susan Austad and Ramon Sanchez into a creative center where a series of art workshops in different media will be held.
Work with Angels Tello Pardo, Master in Studio Art and ceramic sculptor, in an intensive workshop that draws on the history and forms of the ancient Taino people, who lived on the island of Espanola (the D.R.) before the conquest. Tello Pardo has directed art centers and established a ceramics community at Los Marranitos, near the Piedras Negras property where the workshops are held. We will benefit from Tellos Pardo's research into the potent myths expressed in the sculptural forms of this ancient people, as well as her expertise in hand-built ceramic sculptural techniques. Participants have the option of doing Watercolor Meditations using the natural sites as inspiration, as well. |
