Our company offers tours in spectacular landscape. Whether it's up into the highland wilderness areas, through the lovely farming country or on a short ride from the Riding Centre in Hafnarfjörður, riding with Ishestar is always an adventure.
The main attraction of our tours is riding the Icelandic horse in its home country. Herding along free running horses through the highlands, across lava fields, rivers and through bushy vegetation, is the traditional way of riding, since horses are changed at least once a day. We are proud to follow this tradition on all our highland tours and some of our tours in the countryside as well. On our day tours from our Riding Center in Hafnarfjörður we provide horses suitable for any riding level, for beginners but also for advanced riders. Even though you can not spend more than a few hours to experience the Icelandic horse we will help you to make the best of it.
Highland Rides:
Multi-day highland rides lead into spectacular areas. Volcanic activities have shaped the landscape you visit on our Northern Exposure ride. Sandy beaches on Snæfellsnes in the West make it easy for the horses to perform the special gait tölt at their best. Follow the historic trail Kjölur which Icelanders used for centuries when traveling across the central highland. On our Egilsstaðir ride in the East you experience untouched nature, rarely to be found anywhere else. Accommodation on these tours is traditional and simple, in mountain cabins and community centres in sleeping bags. On our tour The Diamond Circle we are able to combine an adventurous highland ride with accommodation in made up beds in double and single rooms throughout the tour.
The Icelandic Countryside
Our tours in the countryside lead through fertile farmlands. Each one emphasizes special highlights. On our popular Golden Circle we ride to Geysir hot spring area and Gullfoss Waterfall. Our tour Trail of Hope in the North was an instant success last year and it offers a great variety of riding tracks and a bus tour through the central highlands. If you can only spend a few days riding an Icelandic horse our two to four day riding tours make the most of your time. In September and October you can participate rounding up sheep and horses. Accommodation on all these tours is in made up beds.
Day Tours in the Reykjavík area
Our Riding centre enables us to offer a great selection of day tours, ranging from one hour to a full day riding tour. Some of our tours include riding only, others include some sightsseeing as well, a bus tour to the Blue Lagoon or Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot spring area, or a cruise on a whale watching boat. Families can enjoy special tours which include the Icelandic horse along with a hidden world walk. Some of our tours include lunch while lunch can be added to others at an additional charge.
Our international clients consist of riders from many different countries, some familiar with the Icelandic horse, others yet to experience the smooth gait tölt for the first time. We consider it a privilege to share a great adventure with people from many different nations.

Is there a better way to visit the well-known sights in Iceland, the Geysir Hot Spring area and the Golden Waterfall Gullfoss than by riding through the lovely countryside of South Iceland?
Incredibly fun, and incredibly great guides. The Northern Exposure ride by Ishetar was just the best. Riders were all good, all interesting people. The horses
... view more were great. The pace was wonderful. The food was great. My brother and my best friend went with me, and we had the best time. The outside tours were great too. Those geothermal pools are to die for.
