Questions and Answers
Our company has always been based on mutual trust and personal service and flexibility to all our guests.
1. How long has the business been operating and how did it start?
We have been actively operating in the safari business since 1999, but have been involved in tourism in some form or another since 1981. The company started out as a family business in 1999, whereby backgrounds in the veterinary field and wildlife research, plus Marketing, combined to satisfy a need for personal service in tourism.
2. What is your company's mission?
To promote Namibia to the many thousands of people who have never, or hardly ever, heard of us, or have any idea where we are, or what we are. We endeavor, through our safaris, to introduce to the world what Namibia has to offer.
3. What does your company specialize in?
Although family vacations feature quite prominently in our list of previous guests, we specialize mainly in special interests. Due to our vast distances and wide open spaces, this enables more specific target areas within the country.
4. Who is the founder or owner of the company and briefly describe his/her past activities?
Leon Openshaw is founder and owner of the company after a varied range of past activities. Starting in the technical field of a medical laboratory technologist, then to research as a veterinary laboratory tecnician. Moved to Namibia in 1970 to a veterinary diagnostic center. The latter included field work in the many wildlife sanctuaries of Namibia, plus constant travel throughout the country. Nature Conservation acquired their own ecological center, and a total change was made into the Marketing field. Back in Namibia, Leon served a term as chairman of the Institute of Marketing Management, and during 1981, a term as representative member of the South West African Tourism Board. Involvement in tourism Marketing led to a period of being a freelance tour guide for larger companies, until 1999 when this company was established.
5. What is your most popular travel package and why?
No single package is very popular, as each safari is custom-made, eventually, regardless of the published safari. However, we have noticed - very specifically - that there are two package groups that are much more popular than most others. These are the "wilderness areas" and the "cultural/rock art" safaris. From all the guests partaking of these, we have learnt that few people can imagine the vast open and untouched spaces still possible in Namibia. Probably due to the clutter and over-population of the world in general. The reason for the other interest - cultural/rock art - stems from an increased awareness and interest in many people to experience the past, and to physically meet the few traditional tribes of the "Old Africa" still around.
6. What is the best compliment you received from a client?
Leon - stunning person!! We found that you are a man of character, connoisseur of your country, upright and honest, excellent judge of people and stalwart through thick and thin. We cannot praise you enough, and we are so thankful that our paths could cross. Know that we will recommend you with the greatest confidence for afordable tours that is worth it. Should we have planned this tour on our own, we would surely have ended up with egg-in-the-face, it would have been absolute chaos.
