Our company continues to be a small business, owned and operated by the Timm family. Hank and Mary have logged many thousands of river miles in their lifetimes, much of it guiding and leading groups. Their experiences in Alaska include building their own log home and raising three children in the Alaskan Bush for 18 years, teaching school, working as a wildlife biologist and outdoor educator, and exploring, paddling and hiking throughout Alaska and Yukon Territory. Both have been guides and open canoe instructors for Canoe Alaska since 1995.

Our family runs business specializing in canoe instruction and guided river trips. Our instructors are certified by the American Canoe Association and have extensive experience in Alaska wilderness travel. We pride ourselves on our knowledge of Interior Alaska natural history. River craft include tandem and solo canoes, rowing and paddle rafts and our new 34' Voyageur canoe. Day canoe clinics include river and safety gear, travel from and back to Tok, and ACA certified instruction. Guided trips include all meals, travel from and back to Fairbanks, river and group camping gear and associated fees. Custom trips are available upon request. Rivers traveled include but are not limited to Tanana, Tok, Chena, Chisana, Gulkana, Forty Mile and Yukon. Special interest areas include Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge, Forty Mile and Gulkana Wild & Scenic Rivers, Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve and Forty Mile Mining District. Raft and Voyageur trips open to all ages, skill levels and abilities.

Hank has completed five 85 to 500 mile Alaska Mountain Wilderness Classic Races (won four), two 600 mile Dyea to Dawson Races in Yukon and three Yukon River Quest canoe races. Their two sons, Jeb and Jake, and daughter Molly have assisted in Canoe Alaska clinics and trips since 1996, and have shared most of those many wilderness miles with their parents.

We have provided formal canoe instruction to more than 1000 students since 1980 and are the oldest canoe instruction program in Alaska. Our guides and instructors have extensive experience in canoe instruction and Alaska wilderness travel. Our specialty is wilderness canoe tripping.
