M09645. (MPPGO) provides fully guided adventures in the North Maine woods for clients around the world that want to experience canoeing and camping in the Maine woods. These trips are typically 3-10 days in duration. Our focus has been on family trips, providing an introduction to camping and canoeing. We guide on the Allagash Wilderness Waterway, the St Croix River, the St John River and the West Branch of the Penobscot River as well as several lakes in northern and western Maine.

As full service guides, we provide everything for our trips. Clients need only provide their personal gear. From transportation logistics, to meal planning, purchasing, and preparation, to complete canoe and camp outfitting, to canoe and river safety, to local history, flora and fauna, we provide a comprehensive service. We offer these trips from mid-May through early October.

David Butler and Tim Emery founded M09645. in 1996. We formed as a partnership for the first three years and then incorporated as a subchapter S corporation in 1999. This has been a part-time business for each of us. It has been primarily a one season business, summer. We have each run approximately 30 days worth of trips a year. We have invested all profits back into the business. We are currently focused on guiding small groups, young professionals, and families.

Many of our clients remember having a great time camping in the past, and they want to re-live that experience with their children. They have gotten away from camping, hiking and canoeing and no longer have the equipment, experience and expertise to do it on their own.

We have expanded our services to include multi sport adventures, and expand our clientele to include corporate small group outings. Our goal is to expand our offering and marketplace to maximize the relatively short season of demand for the tours we offer. With over a third of the US population within a day’s drive of Maine, and the fact that Maine is a destination for outdoor adventures for travelers from around the world, we are after the 20-70 year old, active, athletic, professional, globetrotter, with vacation time and disposable income. Maine Bureau of Tourism estimates that over 4.3 million visitors come to Maine for ‘marketable pleasure trips’ that require an overnight stay; over 80% are non-residents. Baxter State Park has over 23,000 campers annually, 45% are non-residents.

Our market includes visitors from all over the world, but the primary market is from the New England regional area. Maine Bureau of Tourism data indicates that each year there is a 10% increase in the number of non-resident visitors to Maine for ‘marketable pleasure’ type activities
