Located on the northeast coast of Vancouver Island, Johnstone Strait is home to one of the largest resident Orca populations in the world. Each year the whales return to the area to feed on the abundant supply of salmon, and to rub their bellies on the smooth pebble ocean floor of Robson Bight (Michael Biggs Marine Sanctuary). In the distance you see the spray and hear the whoosh of air, as one by one an approaching pod breaks the surface to blow a long breath into the mist. From the seat of a kayak, Orca viewing is an unforgettable experience certain to set your heart thumping.
In addition to the unsurpassed thrill of kayaking with the Orcas, time will be spent immersed in the rich culture of the region. We will visit abandoned ancient native village sites, Orca research platforms and hike through the lush forest. Other wildlife that we are likely to see in this region include, porpoises, bald eagles, bears, seals, dolphins and more…Encountering the Orcas of Johnstone Strait in a kayak is quite simply an experience that will rival any other you may have in your lifetime.
