Experience elephant riding and rafting; then hike to a remote village. Experience village life as a guest in a hill tribe home and learn about their farms, crops and how they live. See how the most important crop of Asia - Rice - is produced and cooked in the village. Then learn about Thai cookery from your guide. You will prepare a selection of Thai dishes as well as learn about the differences of hill tribe cooking.
Your Itinerary Day 1: Arrive to Chiang Mai and you are met at Chiang Mai Airport and transferred to your hotel. Overnight at hotel in central Chiang Mai (included in price of trip). Day 2: Drive from Chiang Mai approximately 1 hour and stop at the Elephant Camp. Enjoy elephant riding and rafting, approximately 1 hour each. After lunch in a small town, drive to the start of the trek. Walk for approximately 3hrs in the afternoon to a Karen and Lahu village, where we spend the night. We are the guests of a Lahu family for the night in their traditional home. Dinner is cooked over an open fire in their kitchen and can be vegetarian or non spicy on request. Accommodation in hill tribe home. Sleeping arrangements are basic, but we provide mats and sleeping bags to make you more comfortable. Includes: (B), (L), (D). Day 3: Spend the day in and around this village. In the morning visit the farms and learn about the activities of the season. Later in the day go back to the village and learn about how rice is cooked and prepared according to traditional methods. Then you will get firsthand experience at how to prepare a delicious meal in a traditional kitchen - "hands on participation". Overnight in the village. Includes: (B), (L), (D). Day 4: Trekking for 2hrs to visit an Akha village and stop for lunch. Learn about the fascinating Akha tribe. This tribe originated in Tibet and the women wear striking headdresses. Then a 2hr walk downhill to a Lisu village. The Lisu tribe is one of the most colorful tribes of Northern Thailand. After a tour around the Lisu village, drive back to Chiang Mai (approx. 2hrs.). Transfer back to your hotel. Overnight at hotel in central Chiang Mai (included in price of trip). Includes: (B), (L). Day 5: We transfer you to Chiang Mai Airport for your onward flight. (Alternatively you can extend you stay in Chiang Mai). Includes: (B). Notes: Price is according to group size. These trips are for private groups and priced accordingly.
