This culinary tour will leave you with a clear memory as to why Spanish Olive Oil is called Liquid Gold by many chefs. The base of Mediterranean cuisine since the time of the Phoenicians, Spanish Olive Oil has the widest variety of flavors: a unique offer for the culinary traveler. Spain is the first producer in the world of what is considered the healthiest fat oil in the world. Three third parties of this Spanish olive oil is produced in Andalusia.

Experience the harvesting the olives, according to both old systems (hand picked or knocking down) and new techniques (with mechanical apparatus). Discover the process to obtain this liquid gold in a visit to a gourmet olive oil producer and an olive oil museum. Participate in a tutored tasting and learn about the versatility use of Olive Oil in the kitchen: an authentic culinary art in which Andalusia outstand. You will have also the opportunity to taste new harvest oils!

Travelling along the "campiña andaluza" (Andalusian countryside) from Seville to Jaen and then to Cordova, your rural visits will include Baena, capital of an olive oil Denomination of Origin, the white mountain village of Zuhero, the Renaissance towns of Ubeda and Baeza, and the wine producing town of Montilla, where you will visit a Montilla-Moriles winery. Your city visits will include the lively atmosphere and cuisines of Seville and Cordova as well as their impressive monuments, of course. You will experience the legacy of the different cultures and people that have inhabited this region for centuries and that have, all of them, loved this land with passion.

Your Itinerary:

Day 1: Sevilla

The program starts in Seville. Check-in at a charming four star hotel in the Santa Cruz quarter, a labyrinth of alleys just in the central part of the town. You will have this day on your own, to rest or to explore this incredible city. Meet your guide and the rest of the group for the welcome drink offered at the hotel. Overnight in Sevilla.

Day 2: Sevilla

Breakfast. Morning walking tour of Seville with a local guide to visit its impressive monumental legacy, crossed by the Guadalquivir, the river along which the ships coming from the Americas sailed those golden years in which the city had the monopoly of commerce with the Indies, three centuries ago. Lunch will be in a well-known restaurant that offers excellent Sevillian traditional cookery, an ideal place to taste the Andalusian art of frying with olive oil. Evening and dinner free. Overnight in Sevilla. Includes: (B), (L).

Day 3: Sevilla - Ubeda - Baeza – Ubeda

Breakfast. Transfer to Ubeda, 16th century Renaissance town in Jaen, a Northern Andalusian province that produces as much olive oil as Greece . From now on, the olive-trees will be inseparable companions of your journey. Check-in at a cosy hotel, a magnificent old restored Renaissance palace with a beautiful patio, nowadays a small family hotel. Visit to the Olive Oil Museum where you will discover the traditional methods for obtaining olive oil and, later on, visit to Baeza, a splendid monumental cluster of palaces, churches and convents of different architectural styles coexisting in perfect harmony. Lunch free in Baeza. Back to Ubeda, we will have time to walk along its streets full of history, towers and palaces. Dinner will take place at the most recognized restaurant of the region for its olive oil cooking. Overnight in Ubeda. Includes: (B), (D).

Day 4: Ubeda – Cordoba

Breakfast. Transfer to Cordova. Important city in Roman times, it would be centuries later in the hands of the Arabs, who established there the seat of the Caliphate, and that is the reason why the place enjoys a fascinating Muslim legacy, being The Mosque a superb exponent of their art. Check-in at a beautiful four star hotel, an 18th century building right in the Jewish quarter and incorporated into the old walls. Lunch free. Afternoon guided visit to Cordova. Dinner will be based on the use of extra virgin olive oil and will take place at an old tavern and former winery offering tasty traditional Cordovan cuisine. Overnight in Cordoba. Includes: (B), (D).

Day 5: Cordoba - Zuheros - Baena - Cordoba

Breakfast. Excursion along the so-called Route of the Caliphate, bordering land full of watch towers, to arrive to Zuheros, a small white mountain village, perched on a crag, with superb view of the never-ending olive-groves. We will continue to Baena, crossing the countryside of Cordova, land of olive-groves, vineyards, small orchards and smooth downs. This pretty Andalusian white village gives its name to one of the ninth Spanish olive-oil denominations of origin for olive oil. We will visit an old traditional olive-oil mill ("almazara") there, where we will taste their different types of oils, main feature of the lunch that will take place in the very olive-oil mill. Back to Cordova, evening and dinner free. Overnight in Cordoba. Includes: (B), (L).

Day 6: Cordoba - Montilla - Cordoba - Azahara – Cordoba

Breakfast. Morning excursion along extensive plains dotted with typically white "cortijos" or Andalusian country houses to the neighboring town of Montilla. Town of great wine-producing tradition where the numerous cellars of Montilla-Moriles denomination of origin alternate with palaces and churches. Visit to a Montilla-Moriles winery. Back to Cordova, lunch free. Visit to the Roman ruins of Medina Azahara, if desired. Farewell dinner in the best restaurant of Cordova, where you will enjoy its traditional cookery of strong country flavors. The restaurant has a wonderful wine cellar, already used in Roman times, and a good offer of different types of oils, basic ingredient of Andalusian cuisine. Overnight in Cordoba. Includes: (B), (D).

Day 7: Cordoba. Breakfast. Independent departure arrangements. Includes: (B).
