The climb requires motivation and fitness, but is non technical and suitable for any eager outdoor enthusiast.

Your Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Mendoza, met at the airport by your trip manager and transfer to Horcones Hotel. Balance of the day is free, group dinner in the evening at one of Mendoza's balmy and excellent value cafe strips. Includes: (B).

Day 2: Today we organize loads, check members equipment, and go pick up our climbing permits from the Tourism and Interior Ministry. In the afternoon time for a siesta before shopping, dinner and drinks later tonight. Includes: (B).

Day 3: We leave Mendoza today for the 4 hour drive into the Andean mountains to Penitentes Ski Resort. After settling in to our comfortable twin share rooms, we take lunch, and then head out to the grass slopes for an afternoon hike. The altitude here (2550m) and the activity will help our bodies adjust to the thinner air we will be encountering over the coming days. Includes: (B).

Day 4: A late sleep in and late lunch before our second acclimatization hike to the summit of a nearby 36oom hill. Down in the afternoon for a hot spa and dinner before an early night. Includes: (B).

Day 5: Today we use jeeps to transfer to the trailhead and log in with the Rangers office, before commencing the 16 km hike to the Confluencia Camp up the Horcones Valley. Overnight in tents, from here on in the group will prepare their own meals on a rotational basis using our messing and dining facilities. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 6: An added acclimatization day is scheduled, and we take the opportunity to hike up the ablation valley to see the awesome 10,000ft south wall of Aconcagua, one of the hardest big alpine walls in mountaineering. Return to Confluencia and overnight in tents. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 7: Today we finish off a longer day of hiking to arrive at plaza de mulas base camp. The route is gently angled except for the last 2 hours, but still makes for a long day. Arriving at BC we set up our tents, eat a big meal, and grab an early night's sleep. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 8: Today is our first full day at base camp, and we take the opportunity to rest and further gain crucial acclimatization. Optional small side walks are possible onto glaciated tongues and up small side hills. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 9: Depending upon weather, team fitness and inclination, and other factors this day will either be a second rest day or a climb to take a load to Camp 1. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 10: From here on in we start to establish our camps up the hill. We utilize a system know in mountaineering as "Capsule Style' where we generally move constantly upwards and taking our gear with us. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 11: Climbing. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 12: Climbing to Camp 2. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 13: Climbing. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 14: Climbing to Camp 3. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 16: Climbing to summit. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 17: Climbing to summit (spare). Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 18: After our ascent of the mountain we descend from the highest camp to base camp in one day, and enjoy a huge feast and rest after our exertion on the hill. Includes: (B), (L), (D).

Day 19: Today we move down the trail to Puente, also in one day, overnight again in a hotel and enjoying our first hot showers in some days. Includes: (B).

Day 20: Drive to Mendoza (2hrs), back in the civil and chic cosmopolitan atmosphere of Mendoza it’s hard to believe we were on the Roof of the Americas only days before. The night usually sees a big dinner and even bigger party that goes into the wee hours of the morning! Includes: (B).

Day 21: Last day for sightseeing, lots of shopping and just taking in the lovely surrounds of this beautiful town. Cheap options are available for members wishing to stay on and extend their time here. In the afternoon we take you back to the airport for your onward flight. Includes: (B).
