During these seven days and six nights, we will spend overnight stays in BRAGA, Ponte de Lima, Tui, Ponte Caldelas, Brión and Santiago, in traditional, rustic and manor houses, belonging to long-standing Portuguese families. The meeting point will be the Vigo Airport.
We will ride about 35 km per day, admiring the country landscapes of Portugal's "Costa Verde", steeped in history, art and natural beauty (medieval monuments, Roman bridges and fascinating Baroque architecture) and finally we will arrive in Santiago De Compostela on day 6 in the evening where we will visit the city and its cathedral. Board and lodging in three or four star Hotel The itinerary includes accommodation and full board, plus professional guides, escorts and insurance, fully-kitted horses and cross-country vehicles. This is the way chosen by the Portuguese pilgrims. This route comes along Portugal and reaches Galicia from the South. We shall start our trip from Braga (Northern Portugal) and we'll ride along this pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. As a horse-riding pilgrims we shall revive a part of the history of the old Europe. We shall cross along some of the best conserved natural environments of Southern Europe. Remote old villages and historic remains will be reached by us and we shall enjoy nature and wildlife as the ancients did. Further Details: We provide you with a full equipped horse well adapted to this land. You can also bring your own horse (Ask for details!). You don't need to be an expert rider but some riding experience is preferable. Weather in Galicia is variable but mild. Anyway, light coat and waterproof wear is recommended. Recommended season for mild weather are from March to October Your Itinerary Day 1: Vigo (Airport Or City Hotel Transfer) – Braga We go for you at your hotel or airport. Meeting at Abergaria Senhora-a-Branca guest country house (Braga, Portugal). Welcome dinner and lodging in a homely atmosphere. Includes: (D); Day 2: Braga - Ponte Da Lima Riding trip to Ponte da Lima across the Portuguese campaign. We'll enjoy a lovely natural environment. Board and lodging at Casa de Paco de Calheiros, a wonderful old guest house. Includes: (B), (L), (D); Day 3: Ponte Da Lima - Sierra De Labruja - Valença Do Minho – Tui Horse riding across Sierra de Labruja to Valença. Then we'll visit the wonderful old fortress and village. Later we'll reach Tui (Spain) and then we'll visit a medieval cathedral and some other interesting historic remains. Board and lodging at Parador de Tui. Includes: (B), (L), (D); Day 4: Tui - Vigo Bay - Arcade - Pontevedra - Ponte Caldelas Horse riding trip along Vigo Estuary by seashore. We'll enjoy a wonderful coastal scenery, we'll see some historic remains at San Simon Island and the modern suspension bridge over the estuary. We'll also visit a beautiful fishermen's village at Arcade, well-known place for its shellfish cooking specialties. Then we'll visit Pontevedra and one of the best conserved Roman remains of Galicia. Finally we'll reach Ponte Caldelas. Board and lodging at "O Castelo" country guest house. Top comfort in a homely atmosphere. Includes: (B), (L), (D); Day 5: Ponte Caldelas - Padron - Iria Flavia – Brion Horse riding to Padrón across Ulla valley. We'll enjoy a beautiful river landscape. We'll visit a very interesting medieval church and other historic remains at Iria, important Roman city in the past. After we'll reach Brión. Board and lodging at Rosalía Hostelry, a beautiful rustic country guest house. Includes: (B), (L), (D); Day 6: Padron - Santiago De Compostela Horse riding to Padrón across the Galician campaign. Lunch at Rosalía Hostelry. Finally we'll reach by car Obradoiro square and the Santiago's Cathedral at Santiago de Compostela. Then we'll visit the Santiago's Cathedral and the Apostle's Sepulcre. Board and lodging in a three or four star Hotel. Includes: (B), (L), (D); Day 7: Santiago De Compostela Breakfast in the morning and independent departure arrangements.
