This tour visits the most popular south central Alaskan destinations: Kenai River, Kenai Fjords National Park, Denali National Park, Tangle Lakes, Valdez and Prince William Sound. you will have the opportunity to some great hiking, rafting, fishing, canoeing, sea kayaking, flightseeing, glacier cruises and more!
Your Itinerary Day 1: Today we travel south on the Seward Highway (a USDA National Scenic Byway, Alaska Scenic Byway and All American Road) to the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, one of our favorite destinations. We’ll stop at the popular Portage Glacier Visitor Center on the way. This afternoon we can explore the Kenai River area at our leisure. (L) (D) Day 2: We’ll spend a full day near the Kenai River surrounded by the Kenai and Chugach Mountains. Recreational opportunities include world-class fishing, river rafting, canoeing, sea kayaking, horse-back riding and hiking. (B) (L) (D) Day 3: A short drive brings us to Kenai Fjords National Park home of the 300 square mile Harding Ice Field. For those venturing on a glacier/wildlife cruise abundant wildlife can be observed including whales, sea otters, sea lions, Dall porpoises and colonies of nesting sea birds. Or, if you prefer, you can go hiking at Exit Glacier, fishing, flight seeing, sea kayaking, dog sledding and/or visit the Alaska Sea Life Center. (B) (L) Day 4: Look for wildlife and enjoy magnificent glacial scenery as we travel across Prince William Sound on the Alaska State Ferry to Valdez. (B) (L) (D) Day 5: Valdez is located at the base of the Chugach Mountains on the shores of Prince William Sound and is often referred to as the “Little Switzerland” of Alaska. Recreational opportunities include hiking, sea kayaking, river rafting, helicopter tours, glacier/wildlife cruises and ocean fishing. (B) (L) (D) Day 6: Scenic drive to Tangle Lakes. En route we’ll cross Thompson Pass, hike at the road accessible Worthington Glacier and view the Alaska Pipeline. This afternoon we’ll have time for a hike or canoe on Tangle Lake. (B) (L) Day 7: Today we travel the 120-mile unpaved Denali Highway along the south side of the Alaska Range to Denali National Park. Many Alaskans consider this to be one of the most beautiful drives in the state. We’ll look for wildlife and stop along the way for short hikes to explore the treeless tundra. This afternoon we’ll have time to explore the park entrance, visit the Denali National Park Visitor Center and/or go on a short hike. (B) (L) (D) Day 8: We’ll spend two full days exploring the Denali region. One day is set aside for a wildlife bus tour into the heart of the park (included in tour cost). Keep your camera ready as you search for bears, moose, wolves, caribou, Dall sheep, arctic fox, and if your lucky, tremendous views of North America’s largest mountain Mt. McKinley (Denali). (B) (L) (D) Day 9: The other day is set aside for recreational activities: hiking, river rafting, flight seeing, horseback riding, Mt. biking and/or river kayaking.
