Day 4: The highlight of your stay in Xian is this morning's visit to the army of Terra Cotta Warriors & Horses Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Gaze in awe of thousands of stone soldiers more than 2,000 years old. After lunch, board an afternoon train for the ancient city of Pingyao. Arrive in Pingyao tonight and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, your local guide will give the group a guided tour of the historic districts of this UNESCO World Heritage City. Includes: (B), (L). Day 6: This morning visit the two centuries old Wang Family Courtyard home. This home was built over a period of three generations of family members and is well preserved. Continue on to the Chang Family Courtyard before taking a motorcoach to Tiayuan and checking into your hotel. Includes: (B), (L). Day 7: Board a train this morning for Datong. After lunch, your group will enjoy an extraordinary visit to China's largest steam locomotive museum. On display are the oldest steam engines of China, the carriage once Empress Dowager Cixi traveled on, the earliest bells, head lights, various tools used on the railway in China as will as the 1st, China-made steam engine by this plant. Includes: (B), (L). Day 8: Visit another UNESCO World Heritage Site today - the astounding Yungang Grottoes containing China's largest and oldest stone sculpture. It is comprised of 53 large caves, 1,100 small ones and niches with 51 thousand stone-carved statues of Buddha typical examples of the combination of Chinese and foreign sculptural arts at the time. This evening board an overnight train for your return to Beijing. Includes: (B), (L). Day 9: Arrive in Beijing from Datong this morning. Following breakfast, tour the magnificent Imperial Palace (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), commonly referred to as the Forbidden City, and Tiananmen Square, the largest open square in the world.
